The Music Department at Dartmouth College is seeking a jazz piano instructor to offer private lessons beginning in Fall 2021. We welcome applications from artist-teachers who are comfortable in performance and pedagogy in jazz styles. Please send your materials as a single PDF to Music Department Administrator Samantha Candon (samantha.candon@dartmouth.edu) no later than June 30, 2021.
This is a private lesson teaching position. Please ensure your supporting materials address teaching philosophy, experience, and versatility.
We expect the chosen candidate to begin teaching in-person and on campus at the start of the Fall term (first day of Fall classes is Monday, September 13, 2021). Teaching load may vary depending on student interest, but the instructor can expect to teach a minimum of four and a maximum of eight students per term in 45-minute weekly lessons, 8 weeks per term (Fall, Winter, Spring terms). Student ability level may range from beginner to advanced. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
This will begin as a one-year position. The position can be renewed for subsequent one-year or three-year contracts upon the recommendation of the Music Department faculty. Opportunities for promotion to Senior Lecturer typically become available at Dartmouth after six years of teaching.
The Music Department at Dartmouth College aims to foster a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and first-generation college students.
The search committee will hold Zoom interviews and teaching
demos for finalists during the month of July. We will be
transparent, prompt, and respectful in our communications with all
candidates at all stages of the search. Thank you for your interest
in this position.
Sincerely,
Sally Pinkas, Professor, Piano Performance
Taylor Ho Bynum, Director, Coast Jazz Ensemble
Jason Ennis, Lecturer, Guitar
Michael Zsoldos, Senior Lecturer, Saxophone
