JOB DESCRIPTION

Communications & Marketing at the University of Indianapolis is seeking applications for a Content Strategist. This is a full-time, exempt staff position. The Content Strategist is responsible for 1) sourcing and creating high quality content designed to enhance University reputation, enrollment, fundraising and community impact, for publication and messaging across the integrated marketing and communication mix (including print, video, digital and copywriting), 2) conceptualizing multimedia treatments to enhance storytelling impact and coordinating with the communications and marketing team to produce them, 3) contributing to all aspects of the communications and content strategy team’s responsibilities as needed, including but not limited to media relations, social media, external and internal communications and crisis communications, 4) leading and implementing the University’s social media strategy across multiple platforms to support recruitment and retention, including development of content and management of the University’s official social media channels 5) building relationships with on-campus clients to serve their communications needs, 6) performing communications and marketing duties as assigned, including proofreading, email design and other tasks, and 7) working collaboratively with an editorial group responsible for developing and implementing University of Indianapolis’ communications strategy across its print and digital channels.

The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team that works to highlight UIndy’s strengths and value by telling authentic and compelling stories for key audiences. This role is integral to the content strategy, planning and development of effective, creative copy and content for the University of Indianapolis’ brand reflected in communications and marketing channels.

As a part of the application, you will be asked to provide a cover letter, resume, transcript (highest degree earned), list of three professional references, and up to three documents (as a single PDF) that best represent your writing skills (e.g. press releases, news or feature writing, marketing materials, social media posts, direct email, speeches/executive writing, etc). At least one example should be feature or news writing.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with maintaining a comprehensive editorial calendar in line with brand, product, and corporate/internal communications strategies
  • Cover assigned stories or identify potential stories, cultivate sources, conduct interviews and research, and write accurate, engaging copy
  • Develop and implement a social media strategy that supports the University’s goals focusing on recruitment and retention, including live stream coordination and social influencer management
  • Collaborate and develop content with leadership, Director of Communications and Marketing Managers to define and drive content creation goals, strategy, and tactics for communications and marketing campaigns
  • Develop client strategies aligned with unit goals, priorities and initiatives
  • Manage and develop content for University magazines and other high profile publications
  • Work with students and faculty to identify and convey powerful stories that communicate clearly, honestly and effectively the value of a University of Indianapolis education
  • Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice, aligned to personas, and optimized for search and user experience for all channels including online, social media, email, mobile, video, print and in-person
  • Develop content for communications and marketing needs, including writing, fact-checking, editing, script writing, storytelling, concepts for video production, website content writing and news website updates
  • Advise academic and administrative departments in developing communications that promote their programs and align with University of Indianapolis’ external communications strategy
  • Adhere to guidelines for grammar, brand messaging, writing, and style
  • May need to be available outside of normal business hours depending on university events and social media management


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience creating content across multiple media venues (digital, video, social media, print) and understanding audience preferences, style and editing for appropriate channel distributions and formats required
  • Bachelors degree in Journalism, Public Relations, English, Writing, Communications or a related field required
