Position Summary:

The Department of Bacteriology seeks a Research Specialist/Lab Manager for the Hershey laboratory, which opened January 2021. The Hershey group uses genetic, biochemical and cell biological techniques to understand how the freshwater bacterium Caulobacter crescentus colonizes solid surfaces. The successful candidate will work closely with the PI to establish a vibrant research environment. In addition to organizing a productive workspace and advancing research initiatives, the position will involve developing an atmosphere that is supportive and inclusive for all individuals.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, chemistry or related field

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

-- Must have demonstrated experience working in biological research laboratory
--Should have experience with preparation of standard laboratory reagents and microbiology (cultivation, media preparation, sterile technique)
--Candidates with training in molecular biology (PCR, molecular cloning, etc.) or protein expression/purification are especially encouraged to apply

Additional Information:

-- Must be familiar with sterile conditions and safety protocols.
-- Must have excellent time management, organizational, record keeping and communication skills as well as computer proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
-- Must possess the ability and desire to work independently and as part of a team.
