Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS ) is an interdisciplinary and integrated academic unit that includes three professional schools: the School of Nursing, the School of Social Work, and the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences. The CHHS Business Core Services Team ( BCST ) is a common support unit that provides financial, budgetary, personnel, business services, events and facilities support to all of the units of the CHHS . The CHHS has a permanent operating budget of approximately $26M and 275 employees.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Award Specialist facilitates funded award related expenditures for the CHHS, including:
• Independent contractor and dual employment requests
• Purchases, including purchasing card transactions
• Employee and non-employee travel
• Disbursements (check requests)
• Supplemental compensation assignments (payroll)
This position works in partnership with the Research and Innovations team of the College to ensure proper data is available for project reporting. In addition, the position prepares and processes miscellaneous financial and accounting transactions such as journal entries and interdepartmental invoices for funded awards, as needed.
The Award Specialist is the subject matter expert for the functional areas they are responsible for executing. To this end, they must be able to independently analyze circumstances and data to make decisions about what they can appropriately manage without elevation and what situations require elevation. This position is expected to function with a degree of autonomy.
The Award Specialist will make decisions about the appropriate use of fund sources, timing, and required level of documentation for payroll, disbursements, procurement, and travel requests made by a variety of stakeholders. Additionally, this position will be expected to independently analyze work-flow and procedural executions to identify training needs and opportunities for departmental support staff.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
• Experience working in a higher education environment
• Knowledge of Banner Finance, uShop, and Chrome River
• Fundamental knowledge and understanding of the organizational structure of the university and various levels comprising Academic Affairs and the responsibilities associated with each level
