The Associate Director for Student-Athlete Support Services will serve as the Head football academic coordinator and supervisor for the tutorial program. The Associate Director will provide direct supervision to the assigned academic coordinator for football/tutorial coordinator, and Assistant Director for the football and tennis programs and will assist in all aspects of academic support services for student-athletes in assigned sports including; tutorial support, study table, academic monitoring, academic reporting, keeping coaches informed of academic progress, APR, eligibility concerns, academic advising, and orientations. Produce an annual report of the academic progress of all student-athletes including historical GPA, APR, and Graduation Rates.

Maintain knowledge of all NCAA rules and regulations related to academic support and eligibility. Athletic teams are assigned to the Assistant Director based on department need, at-risk nature of the student-athletes, academic support requirements while traveling, and profile of incoming freshmen classes. The Associate Director will also work collaboratively with other team members to assist in the life skills programming for student-athletes. This position requires extensive nights and weekend recruiting activities.

Qualifications

A master’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is necessary.

Preference will be given to those possess experience in academic/student support/development services and/or athletics.

Job Specific Qualifications

•Strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

•Strong working knowledge of University academic policies and procedures is preferred

•Strong working knowledge of student-athletes with learning disabilities and appropriate documentation required for educational assistance.

•Must possess ability work extended hours, meet project deadlines and work under time constraint pressures

•Excellent management and organizations skill and knowledge of computer software

•Strong familiarity with, understanding of, and practical experience with major issues concerning student-athlete welfare and conduct, academic enhancement and performance, and the role of and relationship between intercollegiate athletics and higher education

•Strong analytical, written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to successfully interact with diverse individuals from both University and community related constituencies for maximizing University and departmental goals, objectives, relationships and representation

•Established history of quality relationships with staff, coaches, student-athletes, parents, donors, and University faculty and staff preferred

•Demonstrated proficiency administering academic support and life skills programming to prepare student-athletes for life after post-secondary education is preferred

Extensive evening and weekend hours will be required.

Responsibilities

Assist in all aspects of academic support services for student-athletes in assigned sports including tutorial support, study table, academic monitoring, academic reporting, keeping coaches informed of academic progress, APR, eligibility concerns, academic advising, and orientations. Maintain knowledge of all NCAA rules and regulations related to academic support and eligibility.

Maintain thorough understanding of NCAA, ACC and University rules and regulations, University majors and requirements. Assist with the Life Skills Program as requested. Assist with NCAA required reporting for academic progress and graduate rate calculations. Assist in coordinating book distribution and collection process. Assist in nominating student-athletes for appropriate academic awards and scholarships.

Work closely with the Assistant Provost and supervise the two staff members assigned to the football program and tutorial program to produce weekly coaches reports of the academic progress of assigned student-athletes. Coordinate all correspondence from the department to the University faculty relating to the academic monitoring of assigned student-athletes. Perform other department wide student-athlete support services as assigned by the Assistant Provost. Provide direct supervision to the tutorial program coordinator to ensure all policies and procedures are followed, including overseeing all hiring, termination, background checks and recruitment.

Produce an annual report of the academic progress of all student-athletes including historical GPA, APR, and Graduation Rates. Prepare academic reports for coaches and administrators of assigned sports, including academic progress, individual grade information, class attendance, University Rules and Regulations, and NCAA eligibility. Inform the Assistant Provost of any academic integrity issues, eligibility issues, and Academic Progress Rate issues.

Meet with prospective student-athletes and their families during official and unofficial visits to campus to discuss the goals, vision, philosophy and expectations of the academic support program and the athletics department. This often occurs on weekends and during holiday breaks.
