We are searching for an experienced Instructor I Polysomnography .

Job Purpose:
This position will assist with polysomnography (PSG) skills training in various polysomnography labs. Oversee patient setups performed by students, running of sleep studies, and cleaning and processing of lab equipment. Train students on practical and clinical skills as outlined in the curriculum for these courses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Train and direct students on polysomnography procedures to include: polysomnogram studies, titration studies, multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT), maintenance of wakefulness tests (MWT), actigraphy, dental titrations, and full EEG/seizure studies.
  • Train students on identification of sleep staging, respiratory events, cardiac (ECG) abnormalities, limb movements, oxygen desaturations, and other abnormal events during polysomnograms.
  • Demonstrate and instruct students on proper patient education for PSG studies and position airway pressure (PAP) therapy.
  • Identify and troubleshoot artifacts on sleep studies.
  • Assist with instruction on resume building and job interview skills.
  • Work with other instructors and students in operating sleep study equipment.
  • Prepare lab sessions with the proper amount of materials and equipment necessary to effectively teach and/or evaluate polysomnography skills for each student.
  • Maintain a safe lab environment during skills training and evaluations.
  • Keep up-to-date on current American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) scoring guidelines and study/titration practice guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of paid polysomnography work experience required. Associate’s degree preferred.

Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) credential and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Additional Certification in Clinical Sleep Health (CCSH) credential preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge on polysomnography study setup, including running diagnostic studies, titration studies, and specialty studies (MSLT, MWT, dental titration, actigraphy, full EEG/seizure studies) and evaluating/scoring sleep study data
  • Knowledge of current AASM scoring rules and practice guidelines
  • Knowledge of how to use lab sleep study systems (Nihon Kohden, Cadwell, Alice 6, and Sandman)
  • Knowledge of how to use ResMed and Respironics diagnostic positive airway pressure (PAP) units
  • Communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Teaching and testing skills
  • Ability to start and facilitate a sleep study
  • Ability to deliver instructional presentations
  • Ability to make timely decisions appropriate to the situation, circumstances and facts at hand

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work. Positions in this class typically include talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions, plus stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching. Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards. Office environment. Little physical effort required.
