Job Summary

The Human Resources unit in the ACES Business Office is seeking candidates for the position of Instructional Designer II/ III . The Instructional Designer with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System will focus on employee development and continuous learning, including onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and sustaining the skill set of ACES’ employee base. A major focus will include the execution of new and existing organizational-wide Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives ( DEI ) to strengthen the civil rights commitment in ACES . This position will coordinate the transition of professional development courses to Fast-Train working collaboratively with central human resources colleagues on the Auburn University campus as well as providing ongoing maintenance and leadership of ACES Professional Development offerings via a LMS .

Essential Functions

The position provides support for employee development and continuous learning in operational, capacity, and job-specific professional development for early, mid, and later career Extension personnel. It includes providing supervisor guidance and assisting with follow-up & tracking for all stages of the performance management cycle to include onboarding, mentoring, coaching, and ongoing professional development needs for all classifications of Extension personnel careers. Supports Extension personnel in acquiring, developing, and mastering the skills and competencies that allow ACES personnel to grow in their roles and to serve the needs of Alabamians.
Cultivates strategies and learning opportunities for statewide diversity and inclusion initiatives, by working closely with ACES leadership. Develops training curriculum and learning platforms to increase diversity awareness and coordinates the annual civil rights county review process. Takes lead with the ACES Leadership Team on the annual visits and communication regarding process. Stays up to date on state and federal laws regarding civil rights and DEI . Collaborates with ACES leadership and supervisors to identify training needs. Develops and maintains an up-to-date portfolio and calendar of professional development opportunities for Extension personnel, working with central human resources on the AU campus to utilize Fast-Train and other human resource tools and systems, ensuring that ACES learning modules are maintained within learning systems available.

Excellent interpersonal, coaching and negotiation skills as demonstrated through previous roles; the ability to influence others without formal authority as demonstrated through previous roles; demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and with individuals and groups with a variety of identities, cultures, and backgrounds; knowledge and understanding of the issues surrounding access, equity, diversity, inclusion, and implicit bias; politically savvy, and sensitive to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders and build consensus; considerable knowledge of modern training and development, including principals of adult learning, training, organizational methodology and assessment techniques; the ability to work both independently and collaboratively and manage multiple priorities; strong analytical skills; effective interpersonal and written communication, including strong presentation skills; detail-orientation with excellent organizational skills as demonstrated through previous roles.

Minimum Technology Skills

Knowledge of learning management systems, interactive and multimedia applications, authoring tools and standard software packages, including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database programs in support of teaching and learning, in all instructional modalities.

Minimum License and Certifications

Desired Qualifications

Master’s Degree; Background in diversity, civil rights, equity, and inclusion education, multiculturalism, and service-oriented initiatives.
