Job Description:

The School of the Arts is looking for a dynamic, experienced, student-centered educator to teach a course in The Arts and Film during the fall semester. The College seeks Adjunct Faculty who focus on experiential learning and active engagement in their classrooms. Adjuncts chosen to teach at Dean College create a compelling and professional learning environment for students of diverse learning backgrounds.

We are seeking an adjunct instructor to teach PFA 230: The Arts and Film from 1960 to Present. This is a 3-credit course which meets three times a week for 50 minutes. The adjunct pay rate is $3,200.00/section. Adjunct faculty are expected to hold one office hour each week for each section they teach. The School of the Arts provides a course charter with course objectives and learning outcomes and sample syllabi. All faculty will be expected to make active use of the learning management system (Canvas) at least at a minimum level established by the College.

The course description is as follows:

PFA 230: The Arts and Film from 1960 to Present - This survey course explores art, music, dance, film, and theatre from 1960 to the present. The course finds commonalities and distinctions between the art forms that reflect historical trends. For example, students will study the films by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, considering how they compare in light of society, art and culture; study the graffiti art of Jean Basquiat and Keith Haring; and performance studies through readings of Grotowski and performance art, folk rock music (Springsteen), rock (Hendrix, Joplin) and hip-hop pop (Jay-Z and Lady Gaga); and dance (Alvin Ailey and Merce Cunningham). This course emphasizes the theoretical and has a strong writing component.

We are looking to fill one section of PFA 230:

  • Monday/Wednesday/Friday - 12:20-1:10 pm

Requirements:

  • A Master's Degree in a related field, required;
  • COVID-19 Vaccination, required;
  • Experience in the performing arts and/or prominent professional credits, required;
  • Experience teaching at the college level both in person and online, required;
  • Strong computer skills;
  • Ability and willingness to be responsive and supportive to students through college online resources and digital tools, required;
  • Experience with or willingness to learn Canvas, our learning management system, and classroom media, required;
  • Expertise in learner-centered teaching, required;
  • Experience using technologies and/or strategies to enhance pedagogy, required;
  • Experience and ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse student body with a variety of learning styles, required;
  • COVID-19 Vaccination, required.
