Description

Columbia Basin College ('CBC' or the 'College') seeks a Development Officer who will be responsible for managing all facets of the College's Foundation scholarship program and donor software. This position manages scholarship donor stewardship, identifying areas of needed support, promoting the program to students, and managing the application and review process. The Development Officer is also responsible for managing the donor database and training other staff on the function. This position reports to the Executive Director/CEO of the CBC Foundation.

This position is open until filled. Priority consideration will be given to applicants whose application has been received by July 8, 2021 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish scholarship funds, both annual and perpetual, in collaboration with development officers and donors; monitor the scholarship program budget and forecast annual funding needs;
  • Coordinate with volunteer committees who select recipients and communicate with students and faculty to ensure funding is available;
  • Work with the Foundation team to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward relationships with new and existing prospects for scholarship donations;
  • Help identify major areas where scholarship support is needed; participate in annual scholarship appeals to solicit for these areas;
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for the scholarship program; evaluate program annually and implement changes as appropriate in collaboration with College staff;
  • Initiate the preparation of all scholarship program materials including scholarship database preparation and marketing on Foundation and College websites;
  • Create policies and procedures related to the scholarship and donor database; train development staff on proper use;
  • Work collaboratively with the College Financial Aid Office, Student Services and other College staff to ensure accuracy and follow-through on all related activities and processes;
  • In consultation with Foundation staff and Marketing and Communications team, develop an annual marketing plan for scholarships to students, faculty and staff;
  • Hold student information sessions to advertise scholarship opportunities;
  • Design, disseminate, collect and review applications and awards scholarships based on recommendations from review committees;
  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers to review applications and select recipients of scholarships; provide direction to scholarship committees regarding criteria for award of scholarships;
  • Communicate with scholarship recipients to confirm adherence to conditions of acceptance of their awards;
  • Coordinate with Foundation staff to honor and recognize donors and their recipients; act as primary coordinator for annual Scholarship Reception recognition event;
  • Develop donor agreement documents and prepare donor proposals;
  • Manage all donation processing and prepare subsequent donor communications;
  • Work with Foundation Accountant to ensure donor software and financial software balance;
  • Create queries, develop and produce reports related to appeals, events, campaigns and donor base;
  • Provide technology support and training to Foundation staff on donor software;
  • Manage Development Office database to ensure that all pertinent information for scholarships, alumni relations and annual fund donors is up to date and accurate;
  • Assist with coordination and implementation of other Foundation programs, activities and events as requested; and
  • Perform related work duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Two (2) years of full-time professional experience working in a fundraising or financial aid environment;
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint); and
  • Valid U.S. driver's license or ability to obtain one within two months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a higher education setting;
  • Experience working in community college fundraising setting;
  • Familiarity with fundraising software, preferably Raiser's Edge or Raiser's Edge NXT;
  • Familiarity with scholarship-specific software, preferably Award Management or Award Spring.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is available immediately and is a twelve (12) month per year, full-time exempt position. The general work hours for this position are Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.; however work hours may vary due to work demands and some evening and weekend work may be required. This is an overtime exempt position.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility including the ability to move materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. and may infrequently require moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required more than 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computers, telephones, and other standard office equipment.
