Job Description:

By applying a holistic approach, the TRiO Success & Project Coordinator in the Student Support Services Office will serve in a culturally competent manner to help students develop skills, behaviors, and academic habits that contribute to their success in college. These skills include, but are not limited to, college readiness skills: academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation and self-efficacy. The TRiO Success & Project Coordinator is responsible for promoting a positive and successful learning experience for students accepted into the TRiO Student Support Services Program.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Student Case Management and Coaching:

  • Provide academic coaching, encouragement and support to 160 first-generation, low-income undergraduate students.
  • Assist with the identification, outreach, and recruitment of eligible program participants, and work with program and college staff in the development, coordination, and implementation of academic and student services, programs, and initiatives for program participants according to the established recruitment plan.
  • Apply principals of appreciative advising to build rapport and trust with students.
  • Help students design and implement enhanced academic success plans that include goals and objectives that address need area(s). Support successful goal completion and monitor student progress toward established goals.
  • Assist students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles impeding academic success. Work with students to develop their effective time management and organizational skills. Motivate students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success.
  • Monitor progress of students in caseload with: routine check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication related to academic and other concerns, and responding to students' questions, concerns and needs.


Program Development, Support, and Administration:

  • Assist in the creation and distribution of marketing materials and social media to ensure the visibility of the SSS Project both on campus and within the community.
  • Assist students in navigating College policies and procedures.
  • Maintain regular communication with key stakeholders and keep program directors informed of participant progress. Must maintain confidentiality of participant records and information.
  • Assist Program Director in federal administrative duties and reporting as required by the TRiO SSS grant.
  • Maintain and use knowledge of all current resources available to MCLA students to enhance their educational experience, persistence, and general well-being.
  • Develop and facilitate educational workshops for participants that address a variety of college-going skills.
  • Submit timely, routine reports and maintain documentation of student contacts and interactions, issues that arise, and facilitated outcomes of coaching sessions.
  • Assist students with the MCLA's learning management system (CANVAS), academic planning tools (DegreeWorks) and student record system (Banner) to help achieve academic success plans.


Program Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Administer and interpret the Learning and Study Skills Assessment (LASSI).
  • Engage in ongoing assessment and improvement of coaching supports.
  • Maintain updated student data, including documentation of all student interactions, in student record system (Argos) in accordance with TRiO regulations.
  • Conduct data collection and analysis for program improvement or to determine programmatic services or needs. Collection of data through feedback surveys, assessments, and student spontaneous sharing.
  • Prepare reports on student outcomes and progress as necessary.
  • Assist with the formative evaluation of internal project goals through evaluation of feedback surveys, department/division/college goals and strategic plan in comparison to results.
  • Assists the Director with submission of the Annual Performance Report when necessary.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education, or related field
  • 2-3 years of experience advising/coaching college students
  • Sensitivity to and familiarity with the social, economic, and cultural background of low-income, first generation, and disabled students
  • Knowledge of developmental issues of college students and demonstrated knowledge of and sensitivity to multicultural issues
  • Innovative and creative contributor with demonstrated commitment to the values of cultural and ethnic diversity and the ability to build inclusive and respectful environments
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated solid organizational skills
  • Experience designing and leading training presentations
  • Proficiency in use current technologies such as word processing, databases, presentation tools, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications.
  • This position requires occasional evening and weekend hours (student outreach, activities, retreats, and meetings), as well as some travel
  • Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development


Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's Degree in Education, or related field
  • Work experience working with first-generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented students, particularly in the area of academic advising/coaching, diversity, disability services, career counseling, or an equivalent of education and experience in these areas
  • Familiarity with principles of appreciative advising
  • Experience with a higher education learning management system, academic planning tools (and/or student record systems
  • Experience using social media as outreach tool to engage students
  • Formal training and/or work experience providing administrative support to grant or higher education programs maintaining records and following FERPA guidelines



Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, position in the APA bargaining unit. Salary range for this position is $42,000-$45,000 per year.
