Primary Purpose of Position:
The Scholarship Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that programs are operating within the required guidelines. This individual is responsible for assisting with the UNC Grant, SLOT Grant, University and Foundation Endowed Scholarships, external scholarships, and athletics. The Scholarship Coordinator reports directly to the Director.
This position plans, directs and coordinates all phases of the University's Scholarship Program. Responsibilities include posting external and university scholarships, making awards according to program guidelines, searching for scholarship opportunities, notifying students of scholarships, certifying scholarship applications, developing a scholarship brochure and managing the scholarship database. Candidate duties to also include determining student eligibility, advising students and parents of specific financial aid opportunities and responding to correspondence. The candidate will be expected to understand and apply federal, state and university policies and procedures.
The successful candidate must possess a thorough knowledge of Federal financial aid regulations and programs, the need analysis process, financial aid packaging in an automated environment and the US Department of Education Title IV Delivery System; knowledge of automated financial aid database system and Electronic Data Exchange; knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) Applications; ability to work independently with little or no supervision; to take initiative to see projects and assignments through to completion; to learn, interpret and analyze information to make necessary decisions; to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; to plan, prioritize and organize workflow; ability to work flexible schedules; excellent analytical and organizational skills along with written and oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively and diplomatically with a wide range of individuals in a high pressure environment.
Specific duties include:
- Obtain and award annually University Endowed Scholarship funds
by December 31st
- Develop plan for awarding available scholarship
funds.
- Project the available funding for meeting the new and
continuing scholarship requirements by analyzing the scholarship
appropriate, gift, and endowment earning activity.
- Monitor the available balances in the scholarship accounts to
ensure the efficient use of the funds. Monitor scholarship activity
for compliance with criteria and program requirements.
- Review scholarship recommendations and make award decisions
based on plan and available budget, ensuring that awards are within
the available budget and in accordance with University
philosophy/mission.
- Notify students of award decisions and monitor their responses.
Ensure that awards are properly and timely applied to student's
accounts. Disseminate information received from various
organizations to potentially eligible students. Assist students
with obtaining information from the automated scholarship
database.
- Track approved scholarships and advise students of the
scholarship conditions and renewal terms. Respond to
students'/parents' inquiries/concerns regarding their awards,
applications for scholarship assistance, etc.
- Adhere to NCAA deadlines and guidelines for processing athletic
contracts. Review awards for accuracy based on the student's actual
charges
- Post scholarship transmittal within 24 hours
- Conduct Scholarship Workshops to increase the amount of
external scholarships awarded appropriately
Minimum Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of NextGen and Blackbaud (Academic Works)
•Must be willing to work additional hours when necessary.
• Ability to plan and organize day to day work load
• Ability to interact and serve as a resource to students and parents.
•Must possess a high level of accuracy, self-motivation, strong attention to detail, and the ability to handle a heavy workload
•Excellent organizational skills with the ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex projects and tasks simultaneously
