Labor Studies Program

We are an interdisciplinary program that offers classes in labor relations and social justice, customizing the roadmap to graduation for each student. The program works with faculty in Art and Design, Sociology, History, Public Administration and Psychology, Human Resources, Africana Studies, Chicana/o Studies, and Asian Pacific Islander Studies, and various other departments. Critical community engagement research, as well as creative expression are hallmarks of the Labor Studies Program. The culminating event of each year is the annual Labor Social and Environmental Justice Fair that connects campus with community groups, labor unions, worker centers, high schools and the arts. Most recently, Labor Studies at CSUDH began offering a cutting-edge course on Labor and the Environment that promotes a global dialogue, and an online Future of Work course. Graduates from our program cut their teeth or hone their organizing skills in our classes and go on to work in labor unions or in human resources in a range of non-profits, government agencies, or the public sector. Many go on to graduate school studying mediation, law, environmental justice, critical race theory and labor and community organizing.
