Internship Coordinator University College & School of the Arts

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Internship Services and the Deans of the Colleges/Schools, manages the day-to-day functions of the internship program for the School of the Arts, and University College. Recruits and collaborates with employers to develop internships that will accommodate the needs of students, academic programs, university internship requirements and the employers. Markets Internship opportunities and the internship program to students, faculty and administration within the college. Supports High Impact Internship Manager in student coordination duties including advising appointments and course registration. Counsels individually with students from University College, School of the Arts, and pre-professional majors to assess needs and provide assistance in preparing for and locating internship opportunities. Assists students in registering for an internship to obtain college credit. Coordinates the selection of faculty mentors and assists in training faculty on the Canvas Internship Course, and other required university policies as directed by the Internship Services Director. Provides a clear and organized structure for students within the college to complete internship requirements and obtain credit. Tracks internship data, participates in strategic planning and reports regularly to the Director of Internship Services and the Deans of the College.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in directly related field of study or a combination of education and experience totaling four years.

Knowledge
Current social economic and employment conditions, trends and job placement methods.
Employment laws and university regulations affecting internships.
Marketing efforts on a college campus.
Knowledge of job search methods, coaching, professional development and career planning.
Student development.

Skills
Skilled with computer software (Microsoft Office) and other office software as applied to management of student records, report preparation and related activities.
Skill in other multimedia software such as Canvas and Adobe Suite a plus.
Excellent writing and composition skills.
Well-developed interpersonal communication, problem-solving, decision-making and prioritization skills.
Creative, innovative and detail oriented.

Abilities
Ability to work with individuals from multiple authority levels and diverse backgrounds.
Ability to manage several diverse projects simultaneously meeting deadlines.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Ability to be self-directed and to complete tasks without supervision.
Ability to build professional relationships with current and potential employers.
Ability to assist students in developing internship plans.


Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of and commitment to the School of the Arts, University College, Engaged Learning, and Utah Valley University’s mission and strategic direction.


Physical Requirements:
Standard office work physical requirements with the occasional all-day career fair event requiring standing for long hours, lifting, and related work.
