Position Description

The Director of the Campus Y serves as a multifaceted leader, who leads a hybrid organization that functions both as an administrative unit and an organization of 32 student run, social justice committees. The Director provides oversight of the three staff led programs - the Bonner Leader Program, the Global Gap Year Program and the CUBE - Social Innovation Initiative and engages the student run committees through coaching and capacity-building from a student-centered framework. As a hub for social justice, the Director works to ensure that a social justice equity lens is integrated into all aspects of the Campus Y operation. Additionally, the Director leads and directs efforts for engaging students in high impact programs including experiential learning and public service to address real world social problems in the local community and globally; fosters collaboration with other UNC departments and units in support of social change; provides advising and outreach for student service initiatives; assesses student learning outcomes and community needs; and manages the Campus Y operations, including supervision of full-time staff, budget management, fundraising strategies and facility management of non-academic spaces. The position reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement and serves on the Student Affairs Leadership Team.


Educational Requirements

Master’s degree and a minimum of three to five years of progressive responsible experience in higher education, human/social services, global education, entrepreneurship, or a related field.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated commitment to volunteerism, advocacy, and social justice issues.
  • Demonstrated abilities in program planning, evaluation, and assessment.
  • Demonstrated experience with integrating diversity, equity and inclusion in programs and services.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising diverse staff and co-curricular programming for diverse students.
  • Familiarity with legal issues arising from volunteerism and non-profits.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well effectively within a team environment and with student leadership.
  • Demonstrated exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal skills in a collaborative, diverse, and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated use of data in decision making.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience and success in fundraising and prospect development.
  • Understanding of college student development; experience with formal, informal and non-formal teaching and learning.
  • Previous experience working with college students.

Salary

Salary is commensurate with education and experience; low to mid 80s.
