Primary Purpose of Position:
To serve as Wells Fargo Endowed Chair in the Department of Mass Communication.

Minimum Education/Experience:
The successful candidate as a distinguished scholar should hold a terminal degree in Mass Communication or closely related field with a strong track record of research and teaching excellence who is able to be tenured at the rank of Professor. The successful executive practitioner candidate should be at the corporate executive level with an extensive record of professional and leadership achievements. A successful candidate should have an awareness of and be able to demonstrate understanding of and commitment to the history, culture, and traditions of a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. or other appropriate terminal degree in journalism, mass communication, or a closely related field, or being a distinguished corporate executive practitioner with an extensive record of professional achievement and significant professional experience in the areas of public relations and/or strategic communication, and digital and new media.

In addition, applicants should possess a knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of instructional outcomes, as well as knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media. Applicants should also possess an understanding of appropriate learning strategies as well as problem-solving and organizational skills, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
