General summary/purpose:With a prospective cohort design, the AAAFTS Senior Driver Cohort LongROAD study is designed to provide much needed information for advancing the science and practice of safe mobility through a life-course perspective and contribute profoundly to traffic safety and public health. The Maryland Site of the AAAFTS Senior Driver CohortLongROAD study has enrolled 588 active drivers aged 65–79 years and completed all in-person baseline assessments. Participants are assessed annually (both by phone and in-person) until the study period has ended. Study staff is currently conducting follow-up in-person assessments and concurrently conducting follow-up phone assessments.

The Research Program Assistant II will be working with both the PI and Project Coordinator of the study to schedule and conduct phone and in-person assessments in concordance with study protocols and other study activities. Specific duties & responsibilities:

    The Research Program Assistant II will prepare participant mailings, call participants to schedule phone and in person assessments (document all contacts and outcomes) Administer in person and phone assessments (a survey, medication review Physical tests, and a review of the participants car) Assist with data entry, filing, and light office work. Will implement study record keeping, both electronically and on paper, as specified in study protocol, and will complete additional research support activities as necessary.

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

    High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years related experience. Applicant will be required to be CITI certified. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience in human subjects research, older adults, survey administration, and physical assessments strongly preferred.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    The Research Program Assistant II should be outgoing, have a friendly disposition, and excellent phone etiquette. The Research Program Assistant II should be sensitive and mature, as they are required to call 65-79-year-old patients of a Johns Hopkins Clinic and administer the research protocols both over the phone and in person. They will be trained and certified in all study protocols and are then expected to follow protocols closely with a strong attention to detail. The Research Program Assistant II must be very organized, have great time management skills, have the ability work well independently with minimal supervision, and meet important study deadlines on time.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
