The Department of International Health is seeking a Research Assistant who will oversee research study data collection, run and write standard and non-standard reports, and analyze routine data. Work on behavioral health curriculum focused on increasing economic stability of Native fathers and their families, reduce violence in rural Native communities, and increase healthy relationships and co-parenting in Native communities. Position activities include facilitation of the Azhe’é Bidziil (Strong Father) program to Native fathers (or father figures such as grandfathers, uncles, etc.) who are age18 years and older, have at least one child < 24 years old, and live in or near Tuba City and Chinle, Arizona. Weekly lessons are delivered for approximately 12 weeks to groups of 8-12 Native fathers in central community locations. This position will also include all logistics related to data collection, program delivery and case management of participants.

Multiple Positions are Available:

  • 2 positions in Tuba City
  • 1 position in Chinle, AZ
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with the team to develop and identify study instruments and to ensure that qualitative and quantified data instruments are pre-tested, programmed, and piloted prior to field entry.
  • Provide follow-up or intervention services including motivational interviewing and COVID-19 case management for participants assigned to the relevant study groups.
  • Participate in training and provide technical assistance to the team related to data maintenance and remote uploading.
  • Collaborate with the project coordinator and project principal investigator to organize and carry out new staff member training, prepare annual reports (progress reports, IRB forms, etc.), and assist with all aspects of site of curriculum delivery and data entry.
  • Assist with manuscript production, data analysis, and results dissemination.
  • Community engagement with tribally-based project team members is essential.
  • Deliver the 12-session curriculum to groups of Native fathers (or father figures).
  • Provide comprehensive case management to participants.
  • Work with the rest of the project team on duties related to recruitment and consenting and participate in staff meetings to review project goals and progress.
  • Perform miscellaneous related Center-wide programmatic duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline.
  • Some related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU Equivalency Formula.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Dine Bizaad speaker.
  • Knowledge of community geography, culture and traditions.
  • Some relevant experience or interest related to current research projects: participant-reported measures; increased vulnerabilility to infectious diseases and interventions to improve quality and safety during the patient’s diagnostic journeys.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be comfortable completing invasive procedures including specimen collection (nasal, saliva, urine, blood) and other samples from participants.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, including software applications, databases, spreadsheets, and word processing; excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Independent and self-motivated.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented; ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong, positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and within a variety of cultures.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
