Chief Information Officer

Buena Vista University has an opening for a Chief Information Officer (CIO). This position will provide strategic vision and direction for the IT department and promote the role of technology in contributing to the success of BVU while collaborating and forming alliances across campus to accomplish objectives. The position will determine the overall framework for information technology in support of departmental goals and requirements; create the strategic agenda and develop tactical plans to ensure implementation. Conduct ongoing risk assessments and audits to ensure that information systems are adequately protected and meet security requirements; maintain a current business continuity plan for information technology resources. Oversee the evaluation of requests for new technology to determine benefits, costs, required resources, alternatives, feasibility and congruence with existing technologies. In addition, participate in the development, negotiation and finalization of all technical support contracts and service level agreements for supported entities; facilitate discussions regarding current and anticipated service requirements, policy changes and alternate approaches.

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, information systems or related field is required. A Master’s degree in computer science, information technology management, business administration, or a closely related field is preferred. Five years of experience leading an IT organization including supervision of IT staff is required. The ability to design and facilitate appropriate processes for effective decision making pertaining to IT resources and integrate technology resources into organizational strategy is required. Significant knowledge of information systems management, business administration and experience in higher education is preferred.
