The Department of World Languages and Cultures in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for a term faculty position for Academic Year 2021-2022 at the rank of term Instructor or Professorial Lecturer, depending on qualifications. The appointment is a renewable 9-month position and will commence on August 30, 2021.

The position will require the incumbent to teach three undergraduate courses per semester (fall and spring), including, but not limited to Spanish language, civilization, and culture. All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in service activities at the Department, College, and University levels.

Applicants will preferably hold a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in the field of Spanish linguistics, Spanish literature or Latin American studies, though highly qualified applicants with a master’s degree will be considered. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a teaching and/or research record in task- and content-based language teaching, as well as language learning technologies in the context of active learning and flipped classroom curricula. Experience with language course coordination is strongly preferred. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is required.
