Job Summary/Basic Function



The Student Life Coordinator serves as a member of the Division for Student Life (DSL) leadership team, reporting to both the Vice President for Student Life and the Dean of Students. This position assists with case management for the resolution of student issues and concerns referred to the Office of Student Life, coordinates programs and special projects, and provides strategic operational support for the entire division. The Coordinator interacts closely with a wide variety of internal and external constituents on matters requiring the attention of the Vice President, Dean of Students, and/or other leaders within the DSL. This highly collaborative role requires a high level of discretion and initiative in order to accomplish goals established under the University and DSL missions. The Coordinator is expected to be innovative and to anticipate needs, exercise urgency in the completion of responsibilities, and demonstrate excellent attention to detail. The successful candidate must be committed to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for students, faculty, and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Management
• Assists with case management for the resolution of student issues and concerns referred to the Office of Student Life; serves on the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT).
• Assist with initial intake of student issues and concerns, follows up on contacts, and supports the cultivation of ongoing relationships; formulates and/or implements action plans to minimize and/or resolve barriers for students.
• Supports students with issues of emergency leave or withdrawal, and refers students to appropriate resources; processes faculty notifications regarding class absences.
• Acts as community liaison by building consistent and relevant off-campus partnerships to assist students with social services needs including, but not limited to, facilitating access to medical care, off-campus housing, and financial assistance.
• Assists with the administration of student conduct with ability to serve as a conduct officer, which can include investigating student conduct reports; interviewing, reporting and responding to parties and witnesses; and presenting findings to the Dean of Students.
• May be asked to assist with other reporting and grievance procedures for students, including but not limited to, collecting, evaluating, and recording facts pertaining to reports for Students of Concern referrals, academic dishonesty reports, and Title IX related referrals.
• Serve as on-call contact for campus emergencies; alternates on-call rotation with other student life professional staff.
• Serves as a deputy Emergency Evacuation Plan Coordinator and participates in the Building Emergency Evacuation Plan (BEEP) for the Donius University Center.

Programs and Project Management
• Coordinate or assist with University and DSL events, including but not limited to, Maryville Reaches Out, Student Life Recognition Ceremony, etc.
• Act as a liaison with other University and external groups; serve on university and departmental committees as assigned; and participate in activities and projects related to student life matters
• Provide highly skilled coordination and professional administrative skills for project management related to DSL assessment efforts, such as collecting and maintaining statistics and data that will drive quality improvement and provide for program evaluation.
Strategic Planning and Operational Efficiency
• Along with the Vice President and Dean of Students, ensures the smooth and professional operation of the Student Life office; when appropriate escalates potential problems concerning students, faculty, staff, or other constituents to the appropriate area.
• Hires, trains, and supervises front desk student employees, interns, and other relevant student staff for the Student Life office who perform a variety of daily tasks including but not limited to: screens visitors, telephone calls, and emails; sorts and distributes mail; provides accurate information regarding institutional policies, procedures, and resources.
• Works closely with Student Life Leadership Team to develop and maintain the division’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the overall institutional strategic planning efforts in fulfillment of the University’s mission; implements and monitors ongoing benchmarking, assessment, and innovative improvements for all DSL areas to improve the student experience.
• Assists with DSL communication strategy and projects associated with social media (e.g. Twitter, Facebook, blogs, video posting, etc.) and updates DSL content on the University website and internal portal.
• Assists the VPSL in developing and monitoring operational budgets and allocation of expenditures in Student Life; prepares cost estimates and justifications for budget item recommendations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Student Life Coordinator will directly supervise three (3) to five (5) student employees assigned to the Student Life office. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
The Student Life Coordinator is a full-time, 12-month position with some evening and weekend work required. Job functions are primarily performed in a fast-paced, indoor environment frequently requiring multi-task functioning. Will work within standard office conditions. Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation. Lifting and moving items may be required. Required lifting may be broken down into less heavy, manageable components. Minimum Qualifications



• Master’s degree
• Minimum of two years prior experience in an office setting with demonstrated skills in maintaining the highest level of diplomacy, confidentiality, and trust.
• Exceptional written and verbal interpersonal communication skills used to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, family members, and the general public.
• Appreciation for and ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.
• Strong organizational skills to prioritize and perform multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail, while also demonstrating the highest level of customer service.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve high performance goals, be adaptable to various competing demands, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently and to demonstrate a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Knowledge and experience using integrated software systems and Microsoft applications (with proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel) and the ability to quickly learn new software and databases.



Preferred Qualifications



• Degree in higher education or a closely related area.
• Higher Education experience highly desired.
