Makerspace Manager


Kimbel Library at Coastal Carolina University welcomes applications for a Makerspace Manager. Reporting to the Head of Research and Scholarship, the Makerspace Manager oversees daily operations of the Makerspace. The Makerspace supports 3D printing and scanning, large format printing, virtual reality, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, sewing, and subtractive manufacturing. This position will also play a key role in opening a state-of-the-art Makerspace in the new Library Learning Commons, set to open in Fall 2023.


Duties include, but are not limited to: manage and oversee the daily functions of the makerspace and the libraries’ instructional technology spaces; lead a comprehensive training program on makerspace equipment, safety, and procedures, coordinating supplies, and facility maintenance; collaborate with faculty to foster experiential and tactile learning, entrepreneurship, and technological innovation in the curriculum; provide direct service in the Makerspace, including assisting faculty and students in the use of 3D technologies, virtual and augmented reality, CNC tools, and other technological and tactile tool; supervise Makerspace staff and student workers/interns in the makerspace, ensuring continuity of services and exemplary customer service; promote campus awareness of Makerspace services, resources, and expertise, in conjunction with library colleagues; evaluate existing technology and prototypes new technologies for addition to the makerspace; and other duties as assigned.


Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in library science, information science or a related field and experience in library systems and operations is required. Experience with Makerspace technologies such as 3D printing, laser cutting, milling, etc. is preferred. Experience developing programs for teaching technology and management experience to include spatial and personnel is preferred.
