The School of Education and Human Development at the University of Southern Maine is seeking a tenure-track Associate Professor with expertise in teacher education to serve as the Director of Educator Preparation and Accreditation. The Director oversees the School of Education and Human Development’s Office of Educator Preparation. The Director is responsible for national accreditation of the educator preparation unit, the educator preparation unit assessment system, state program approval, and recommendations for state certification or licensure for unit member programs. The Director leads USM educator preparation faculty in strategic educator preparation program planning and is responsible for establishing, assessing needs, identifying opportunities, and delivering high-quality programs.

The successful candidate will lead teacher education program faculty, supervise staff in the Office of Educator Preparation, teach undergraduate or graduate courses to teacher candidates in any of our initial certification program areas, pursue a scholarly agenda, and provide service to the university, the community, and the profession.

Required Qualifications

  • A doctoral degree in education, curriculum and instruction, special education, literacy, TESOL, or a related teacher education field
  • Higher education experience equivalent to achieving the rank of associate professor
  • Experience leading and/or coordinating state approved and nationally accredited teacher education programs
  • Experience supervising a team of professionals to work collaboratively toward common goals
