The Center for International Education at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio, is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for the International Program Advisor position. The International Program Advisor will advance department and university international education goals through the support of international and study abroad students. The Center for International Education promotes a supportive work environment and prioritizes DEI initiatives.

This position will be instrumental in helping international students adjust to life at Xavier and in the U.S., and in helping to reach our departmental goals of increasing the study abroad participation of underrepresented students. Successful candidates will also demonstrate an interest in supporting efforts to increase international enrollment at Xavier. Candidates with experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and/or international students are encouraged to apply.

The advisor plans and organizes programs and outreach including the international student orientations, study abroad pre-departure orientations, study abroad fairs, cultural adjustment workshops for international students, and re-entry programs for study abroad students. This position communicates international student and study abroad opportunities broadly through marketing initiatives and programming.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise non-immigrant students in F and J status in regard to maintenance of their legal status in the U.S.;
  • Coordinate pre-arrival communication and support; orientation; and ongoing programs to facilitate international students success and integration;
  • Respond to student inquiries on education abroad opportunities and advise students about education abroad programs, e.g. study, volunteer, service abroad;
  • Provide education abroad programming and outreach to support students studying abroad;
  • Promote programs and services through various methods including leading departmental web and social media efforts; and
  • Supervise student workers.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required/Master’s preferred
  • U.S. citizenship or legal Permanent Residence due to Department of Homeland Security requirement to be a designated school official (DSO)
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Strong verbal, written, and intercultural communication skills
  • One to two year(s) of experience working in international education preferred
  • Experience studying/living abroad preferred
  • Second language ability preferred
