College of Arts and Science: Web Communications Specialist will create and maintain webpages for the division-level College of Arts & Science (CAS), CAS Advising, and multiple CAS departments, centers, and programs. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintenance of a number of university-level webpages, as well as maintaining the CAS YouTube channel.

The primary responsibility of the Web Communications Specialist is to use Miami University’s content management system (CMS) to build, organize, and update webpages. This involves supporting the information architecture and assisting clients with content analysis and site organization. In addition, the candidate must be capable of:

  • Providing ongoing support (including training as necessary) to CAS departments/offices in their online marketing and communications efforts
  • Writing and/or editing webpages for accuracy, clarity, and consistency
  • Optimizing images for web use
  • Working closely with colleagues and stakeholders at multiple levels within the university, including the CAS Director of Communication and University Communications and Marketing
  • Staying current with latest trends in web site design, accessibility, and usability, and making recommendations for incorporating new features into the sites.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, interactive media, or closely related field and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 1 year; OR Associate’s degree in computer science, interactive media, or related field and have previous internship or professional experience of at least 3 years; OR Previous internship or professional experience of at least 5 years.  Must also have strong writing/editing background; Proficiency with HTML; Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop or similar graphics/imaging software; Organization skills that include a strong attention to detail and an ability to multitask; Demonstrated knowledge of creating and maintaining webpages for content management systems (preferably Cascade Server or equivalent); Ability to work independently and take initiative in creating new web content; Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively with a broad range of campus constituencies and work as part of a cross-functional team.

Consideration may be given to candidates with experience in the production and maintenance of websites within higher education; Experience working with and providing guidance to designers, editors, IT specialists, content providers, or related positions; Experience developing information architecture; Knowledge of accessibility laws (e.g., Section 508) and standards (e.g., WCAG); Knowledge of both Windows and Macintosh environments; Knowledge of SEO and usability best practices; Experience with Google Analytics and/or other data analysis tools.
