Position Summary:

The Waisman Center is dedicated to the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities, and neurodegenerative diseases throughout the lifespan. One of 14 centers of its kind in the United States, the Waisman Center encompasses laboratories for biomedical and behavioral research, a brain imaging center, and a clinical biomanufacturing facility for the production of pharmaceuticals for early stage human clinical trials. In addition to its research efforts, the Center provides an array of services to people with developmental disabilities, offers numerous educational and outreach programs to young children and their families, and trains scientists and clinicians who will serve our nation in the future.

This position is responsible for performing human resources activities in the area of recruitment/staffing, classification, compensation, payroll and benefits, communications, employee relations, and related functions for the Waisman Center. The Waisman Center has 600+ paid personnel (Academic Staff, University Staff, Post-degree Trainees, Student Assistants and Student Hourly) and 250+ unpaid individuals. The Waisman Center also has affiliate faculty from 25 academic departments who have research programs located in the facility.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Well-qualified applicants will have the following preferred experience:
- One year of professional experience working in Human Resources, preferably within a university environment.
- Knowledge of University of Wisconsin policies and procedures as well as federal and state laws and statutes related to human resources.
- Proficiency or familiarity with or ability to learn HRIS system software (e.g., JEMS, TREMS, HRS, Cypress, WISDM, Business Intelligence, etc.)
- Ability to exercise judgment, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to use customer service techniques to respond to inquiries thoroughly and accurately while maintaining
professionalism, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with faculty and staff.
- Attention to detail, effective time management, organizational and independent decision making skills are essential.
- Demonstrated commitment to courteous and responsive customer service, with the ability and desire to work as a member of a team.

Additional Information:

A Criminal Background Check will be performed.

Must complete HIPAA training and receive certification within the first 5 days of employment and annually thereafter within 5 days of notification.

Reporting requirements must be completed in a timely manner, including but not limited to effort reporting and outside activities reporting.
