Job Summary

Responsible for providing leadership and assisting with major aspects of the Field Education Department which designs and implements internship-based curriculum for approximately 250 MSW level students in over 150 agencies throughout the United States and Canada.

Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Essential Functions

MSW Field Education Curriculum (5%)

Assist in developing and implementing current and new field programs and curriculum, including but not limited to interview skills training, field orientations for students, Summer Field Series, Field Prep Course and supports for students who hold marginalized identities.

MSW Agency Administration (25%)

Develop and sustain agency and employment-based internship (EBFI) affiliations, including tracking applications for affiliation, visiting agency sites as needed and negotiating terms and expectations of the internship.

MSW Placement and Internship Management (50%)

Conduct outreach to agency directors of training, supervisors, and faculty field advisers. Conduct Pre-Placement Meetings with students. Compile and track accurate data regarding available internship sites, serve on the Field Placement Committee which matches students to field internships; review all field internship materials, in addition to other internship management tasks. Consult with students and supervisors about agency-based learning issues or concerns; provide oversight of placements, students, and/or FFAs as required to ensure compliance with ethical and clinical standards of the profession. Engage in mediation and problem-solving as needed, including facilitating informal problem-solving meetings, academic conferences and participating in academic reviews.

MSW Field Adviser Management (5%)

Serve as point person and consultant for faculty field advisers; design and implement virtual and on campus meetings, trainings and Pedagogy and Diversity consultation for FFAs.

MSW Supervisor Training and Administration (5%)

Develop supervisor training modules, including on campus, agency-based and distance learning opportunities for supervisors and agency-based directors of training. Coordinate with Alumni Association on training events and other student and agency support services; assist with the planning and implementation of the Deepening Clinical Practice/ June Field Education Conference.

MSW Faculty Field Advising and Field Faculty Roles (5%)

Serve as faculty field adviser to assigned students, as needed in backup capacity. Fill in for teaching field seminars and Field Prep Course, as needed. Provide coverage when Director of Field Education is unavailable.

SSW Committee Work (5%)

Serve on committees as assigned, including Academic Progress Review Committee.

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

Education/Experience: MSW or PhD plus a minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in both clinical social work and field education, either as an agency-based supervisor or as a faculty field adviser. Highest level of clinical licensure obtained.

Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous work experience in a social work MSW Field Education Dept or social service agency management.


Ability to organize and prioritize work, take initiative, resolve problems, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent communication skills, including listening, verbal, written, decision-making, and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality; strong project management skills; ability to communicate with all levels of the department and organization; ability to interact well with diverse constituencies and the ability to support and contribute to the School's anti-racism and anti-oppression initiatives. Proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office Suite; must have facility with technology, including Moodle and Sonia field placement software. Demonstrated capacity to engage in analysis of structural variables using an intersectional lens as these variables impact student learning and understanding of adult learning and diverse learning styles of students.
