Neuropathology/Neuropathologist Section Chief

West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Department of Pathology, Anatomy & Laboratory Medicine (PALM) seeks a Neuropathologist/Neuropathologist Section Chief (ranks available: Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor). The successful candidate will be responsible for strategic vision of Neuropathology clinical services, education and research. Pathologists with an academic focus in the neurosciences (eg, neurodegenerative disorders, tumor, stroke, etc) are encouraged to apply as there is tremendous potential for candidates with a record of scholarly productivity to collaborate with faculty at the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and the WVU Cancer Institute.
The successful candidate will be expected to practice in Morgantown, WV.

Depending on operational needs, a successful candidate may also be assigned to provide services at additional worksites in West Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. In such instances, travel would be anticipated and expected to fulfill said duties at these additional sites.

Duties: The successful candidate will practice neuropathology. Expertise in brain tumor pathology is essential and experience diagnosing neuromuscular, neurodegenerative and ocular conditions is preferred. Participation in autopsies is required, as is active involvement teaching our medical students, residents, and fellows. Additional responsibilities and leadership roles in support of our missions will be based on a candidate’s interests, skills, and experience.

Qualifications: Candidate must have an MD, MD/PhD, DO degree or foreign equivalent and be eligible for state medical license. Successful candidate must have completed a pathology residency program, as well as neuropathology fellowship program. Successful candidates must be board certified / eligible in AP or AP/CP. For appointment at the level of Associate or Full Professor a demonstrated record of accomplishment in clinical service, teaching and scholarly pursuits is required. All qualifications must be met by the time of appointment.

About the Department: WVU PALM is a rapidly growing department consisting of faculty in AP, CP, Translational Pathology, Anatomical Sciences and Medical Laboratory Sciences. Clinical AP services are committed to Digital Pathology and are supported by state-of-the-art ancillary testing. Faculty research activities are supported by the PALM Tissue Bank, Research Histology Lab, Brain Bank and Rapid Development Laboratory.

About the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute: The Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute is developing multidisciplinary clinics that focus on providing holistic patient care, including movement disorders, neuromodulation, memory health, and brain injury and concussion. The RNI has expanded the departments of neuroscience, neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, and behavioral medicine and psychiatry, integrating multiple disciplines and forming a team of specialists.
