Job Description:

Counseling –

· Assists students with accessing social services, including but not limited to: making referrals for medical and/or mental health care, food insecurity, and housing resources. Follows up to ensure that students are appropriately assessed, successfully referred, and compliant with treatment recommendations.

· When needed, provides immediate support to faculty and staff at the Levin College of Law who need assistance with a student in distress. Consults with faculty, staff, students, and family members, who are concerned about a student.

Outreach and Prevention -

· Provides students with information on resources available to help address stressors directly linked to being a law student.

· Addresses law student wellness issues during orientation for new entering students which includes: coping effectively with stress and anxiety, psychoeducational information on how law school can impact mental health/substance use, and an overview of mental health services available to law school students.

· Publishes resources for prevention related to substance use, mental health, and wellness with the intention to normalize the process of self-care thus removing the stigma and promoting the seeking of help related to these student concerns.

· Provides/coordinates training to faculty and staff related to student mental health and substance use disorders

· Empowers students to help fellow students in need

· Collaborates with students to gather input from student body to organize/create opportunities and programs that promote well-being and mental health

· Provides education opportunities on well-being related topics

Administrative and Liaison Duties -

• Completes records punctually according to record keeping/report writing procedures that are required by legal and ethical regulations.

• Creates best practices for detecting and assisting students experiencing psychological distress

Collaboration –

• Initiates and develops on-going liaison relationships with other university departments, community health providers, services, hospitals, and other resources.

· In collaboration with other members of the student services team, the Case Manager develops, maintains, and monitors a clinical case management system to provide continuity of care and follow-up for students.

Other duties as assigned -

• The College of Law is growing and changing daily. All College of Law community members are expected to perform other duties as assigned in furtherance of our strategic goals.

Expected Salary:

Minimum Requirements:

Professionals with one of the following credentials are qualified to provide psychosocial counseling:
■ Social worker with a master’s degree or a Ph.D. in social work from a Certified Social Work Education-accredited school of social work.
■ Registered nurse with advanced specialized counseling education and training as a clinical nurse specialist or certified psychiatric nurse.
■ Professional licensed to provide clinical, counseling, and psychotherapy services by the Florida Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance.
■ Counselor with a master’s degree in counseling.
■ Psychologist with a master’s or Ph.D. in psychology.
■ Master’s or doctoral level graduate student intern from an accredited school of social work or a psychology or counseling program, under the supervision of a licensed practitioner qualified to supervise such interns.

Preferred qualities of the candidate include:
· Experience working with college/professional students and staff
· Experience working in settings with more severe presenting concerns
· Administrative and computer application skills (e.g., experience with Titanium) required to effectively implement and maintain a case management and tracking system
· Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize, manage, and coordinate multiple clinical situations
· Energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of a challenging workload while maintaining positive and healthy perspectives and relationships
· Collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues
· Demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to multicultural issues/social justice and proven ability to interact with diverse individuals and groups
· Self-motivated, self-directed commitment to high professional ideals, standards, and ethics
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Experience in college mental health, including crisis assessment, management, and intervention, and confidentiality requirements
