Director of Summer and Intersession Programs

Office of the Provost

JOB SUMMARY:

Serve as the primary person responsible for the design and implementation of a robust portfolio of summer and intersession programs, including credit-bearing and non-credit bearing offerings. These programs are offered to a wide audience of students, including Adelphi students (graduate and undergraduate), high school students, visiting students, adult learners, and others. The Director will work closely with other departments at Adelphi to coordinate the creation of curricula, ensure availability of teaching resources, make strategic use of facilities, oversee programming logistics and collaborate on student recruiting efforts.

REPORTS TO: Assistant Provost for Innovation

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  1. Summer Pre-college Programs:
  2. Design, launch, and coordinate all summer pre-college programs.
  3. Create new offerings, for-credit and non-credit, virtual and in-person, that will attract a large number of students and strengthen Adelphi's reputation.
  4. Plan and execute recruitment strategies, in collaboration with University Admissions, from high schools and other channels including social media, clubs such as VEI, DECA and others.
  5. Craft a comprehensive academic and social program to guarantee an excellent experience for student participants.
  6. Develop a follow-up system to promote continuous engagement that might lead to full time enrollment at Adelphi.
  • Credit-Bearing Courses and Non-Credit Experiences:
  • Work with Adelphi colleges and schools to develop credit bearing offerings and non-credit experiences for summer and intersession for undergraduate, graduate and continuing education Adelphi students and other non-Adelphi students.
  • Continuously conduct market research to facilitate the creation of new programs that address market needs, leverage Adelphi capabilities and have a high potential for student engagement.
  • Strategic Partnerships & Hands-On Learning Opportunities:
  • Develop strategic partnerships for program cohorts during summer and intersession - (corporate, educational, domestic and international).
  • Work with International Services to identify, develop and implement international partnerships.
  • Collaborate with Auxiliary Services, University Athletics, and other key partners to inventory, grow, and promote strategic partnerships with camps, conferences, and other summer and intersession engagement opportunities.
  • Marketing and Promotion:
  • Ensure a visible, up to date web presence with clearly defined summer and intersession opportunities.
  • Coordinate a comprehensive, integrated marketing plan (paid and unpaid tactics) with University Communications and Marketing.
  • Identify new audiences as appropriate as new summer and intersession programming is introduced and former programming is refined.
  • Regularly benchmark portfolio of offerings across regional and national peers.

  • For all the programs above, the Director will:
    1. Design programming and reputational strategies, format and propose pricing strategies, and drive revenue growth during summer and intersessions.
    2. Work with University Communications and Marketing to support recruitment including web page content, social media, and digital efforts.
    3. Be present and on call for campus duties during the summer and intersession pre-college programs that are actively running.
    4. Oversee the administration and budget of the Adelphi summer and intersession portfolio of programs.
    5. Oversee faculty budgeting, staffing, course scheduling, residence hall and food accommodations, travel arrangements, guest speakers, tickets to events, and all other operational activities required for all summer and intersession programs.
    6. Plan, schedule, execute and coordinate tasks, assuring that all parties involved are completing duties as expected.
    7. Engage with faculty from different schools and colleges to coordinate execution of the credit and non-credit bearing offerings.
    8. Regularly collect feedback and make strategic recommendations for future pivots and improvements.

    REQUIREMENTS: (Knowledge, skills and abilities)
    1. Professional experience in a University setting.
    2. Significant experience in Project Management.
    3. Superior interpersonal skills and a strong desire to engage with students.
    4. Excellent public speaking skills.
    5. Experience in budgeting and planning.
    6. Experience working with or counseling high school and/or college students.
    7. Knowledge of PowerPoint, Microsoft Word and Excel and Social Media.
    8. Ability to work extended and non-traditional hours as needed.
    9. Ability to travel as needed.

    EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    1. Master's degree required.
    2. At least three years of experience in higher education.
    3. Experience in summer and intersession programs, or continuing education programs is preferred.
