The College of Sciences at Old Dominion University is seeking
candidates for the Academic Advisor (full-time, 12 month) position.
This position is responsible for the advising and retention
initiatives and activities for all students in the College of
Sciences. Other duties include: representing the College at campus
functions such as orientation (PREVIEW), open houses, as well as
coordinating and managing program, which require inter-departmental
collaborations. This position is also expected to be available to
instruct at least one section of the University 101 Academic
Success course.
Required Education: Master’s degree in a related
field or a bachelor’s degree with experience equivalent to a
master’s degree.
Required Qualifications: Prior advising
experience. Excellent interpersonal skills, including public
speaking. Strong written communication skills and technical skills.
Knowledge of counseling and student development theory or
equivalent experience. General working knowledge of academic
vocabulary and requirements. Effective organizational skills with
versatility and problem-solving skills are a must.
Preferred Education: Master’s degree in
counseling, public administration, or higher education.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior advising
experience in a college or university setting. Some experience with
academic programing and/or teaching.
