The Darden College of Education and Professional Studies at Old
Dominion University is accepting applications for the Marketing
Coordinator (full-time, 12 month) position. This position is
responsible for advancing the Darden College of Education and
Professional Studies Dean’s priorities of marketing the College’s
academic programs to internal and external constituents. Other
duties include: develop and execute a comprehensive strategic
marketing, recruitment, and communication plan focused on promoting
the College’s academic programs, departments, services, and events;
enhance the professional reputation of the College through website
improvements and active social media management and engagement;
work collaboratively with the Dean, the College’s academic units
and University offices to develop and execute new marketing
campaigns and support existing initiatives; lead student
recruitment activities to grow enrollment and increase the
awareness and recognition of the College; use the stories of the
College’s research, teaching, service, faculty, alumni, and
students to reach key audiences; participate in marketing and
outreach activities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia and
beyond – in-person and virtually.
Required Education: Master’s degree in marketing,
communications, journalism, public relations or another related
field of study OR a bachelor’s degree and related working
experience equivalent to a master’s degree in a related field of
study may be substituted.
Required Qualifications: Considerable experience
developing and managing all aspects of effective marketing and
public relations plans. Considerable experience writing and editing
professional newsletters and promotional materials. Considerable
experience writing press releases, feature articles, and news
stories. Considerable knowledge of marketing, social media, public
relations and communications principles/practices and strategies.
Basic photographic skills. Proficient skills in using Microsoft
Office and Adobe software such as Creative Suite 6 Photoshop,
Illustrator, InDesign or similar software. Proficient skills
necessary to analyze data to interpret enrollment trends utilizing
university databases to identify, track and support potential
students. Considerable skill in editing/proofreading, correct
grammar usage, and writing persuasively. Comprehensive
communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with
clients of diverse cultures. Demonstrated ability to create new
marketing materials and use tools to highlight critical elements in
marketing campaigns to internal and external constituents.
Demonstrated ability to develop and execute a comprehensive
marketing plan for the college. Demonstrated ability to gather,
organize, and achieve marketing and outreach information to the
college, create text, edit and manage the production of a wide
variety of marketing materials. Demonstrated ability to develop and
implement marketing/recruitment strategies for graduate and
undergraduate programs. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with
campus partners, such as the Graduate School, Distance Learning,
Student Enrollment Engagement Services, Undergraduate Admissions,
and Career and Advising Resource Center to support and enhance
their recruitment strategies and activities. Demonstrated ability
to identify, organize and accomplish tasks in priority order and
keep several projects moving ahead simultaneously all with a
minimum of supervision. Demonstrated ability to interpret
guidelines, policies and procedures to fit changing
situations.
Preferred Qualifications: Considerable experience
working in university or college level marketing using the latest
technology in higher education, preferably in colleges of education
with progressive responsibility in managing and leading teams.
Demonstrated ability to interact well and maintain effective
relationships with alumni.
