Visiting Assistant Professor in Biology

Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a one year full-time visiting position in Biology to begin September 1, 2021 with the possibility of reappointment based on satisfactory performance and programmatic needs.

 The Randolph-Macon Biology Department is a growing and research-active community of nine tenured/tenure-track faculty with approximately 120 student majors and 60 student minors. Randolph-Macon welcomed its first class of Nursing students in the Fall of 2019, and these students also benefit from many of the Department’s course offerings. Biology faculty are committed to delivering inquiry-driven science education and conducting research with undergraduate students, grounded in an innovative inquiry-driven introductory biology course sequence.

Major/Essential Functions:  Primary teaching responsibilities will include Human Anatomy and Physiology (A & P), with potential opportunities to teach in our introductory course sequence and offer an upper-level course in the successful candidate’s area of expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

Post-graduate degree in the biological sciences or health-related field;

Knowledge of anatomical/physiological systems;

Commitment to teaching undergraduate students; and

Experience teaching biology as an instructor of record at the collegiate level.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in the biological sciences, M.D., or D.O.;

Demonstrated effectiveness teaching undergraduates using active learning approaches;

Experience teaching A & P as an instructor of record at the collegiate level;

Evidence of working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds toward shared goals;

Evidence of success using pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential; and

Experience with a liberal arts framework.
