The Assistant/Associate Director provides leadership and direction in the development and oversight of an office that aims to recruit and retain high-achieving, low-income students, through several different public and private scholarship programs. The Office of Equity & Inclusion (OEI) serves over 100 students, many of whom are first-generation, and/or students of color.

Specifically, the position requires the ability to manage time, multi-task, and function successfully with little supervision. It includes providing pre-college awareness and assistance to participants and their families at target schools and their communities through the admissions process; training and supervising student staff; overseeing the Peer Mentor Program as well as small group advising (Mentor Network) and other events during the summer program and school year. The position requires detailed documentation of participants' eligibility and services, as well as maintaining administrative and participants’ files.

Close collaboration is expected with other OEI staff and offices and programs across the college; including the Bard Learning Commons, Academic Advising, the Dean of Student Affairs Office, Health and Counseling Services, and the Office of Residence Life and Housing. This is a full-time, 12-month position in Student Academic Affairs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participation in the recruitment and admission of new students
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of a pre-matriculation summer orientation program
  • Working individually with students in an advisory capacity
  • Consulting and collaborating with appropriate members of the College community to develop academic and other support services for students
  • Administration of program functions, budgets, and reports for the Posse Foundation and for New York State
  • Experience advising students and working with faculty to develop and provide support services
  • Minimum of 1-3 years related college or university experience
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and have excellent personal, oral and written communication skills; knowledge of computer software applications
Preferred Qualifications:
  • The successful candidate will have 3-5 years’ experience working in a college setting
  • Master’s Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, problem-solving, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a range of individuals across the college
  • Knowledge of small, liberal arts institutions preferred,​​​​​​
  • Proven ability to provide training to students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to build relationships with and support a student body that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion
  • Experience with managing budgets and reports
