The Department of Sociology in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) at American University invites applications for a term faculty appointment for Academic Year 2021-2022. The appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 30th, 2021.
The position will require the incumbent to teach three courses per semester (Fall and Spring) in Sociology, including, but not limited to courses in the AU Core curriculum. These courses are currently expected to be SOCY 100, U.S. Society in Global Perspective (Fall and Spring), SOCY 215, Critical Social Thought (Fall and Spring), SOCY 412, Social Theory, Undergraduate (Fall), and SOCY 612, Social Theory, Graduate (Spring). Established in 1938, the Department of Sociology offers both BA and MA degree programs as well as a graduate certificate in Public Sociology. The Center on Health, Risk, and Society (CHRS) is based in the department. One source of the department’s strength is the complex range of scholarly interests and social identities that our faculty, staff, and students encompass, and we seek every opportunity to expand that strength.
