Professorial Lecturer

The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University invites applications for two term faculty appointments for Academic Year 2021-2022 at the rank of Professorial Lecturer. Each appointment is a 9-month term position and will commence on August 30, 2021.

The positions will require the incumbent to teach three courses per semester (fall and spring) in anthropology, including, but not limited to, Anthropology of Life in the U.S.; Race and Racism; Sex, Gender and Culture; Human Origins; Anthropological Theory and Introduction to Archaeology. Graduate level course assignments will be selected according to the applicant’s specialty and department needs. All courses will be taught on campus in Washington, D.C. Term faculty are expected to hold office hours each week during semesters in which they teach and to participate in department activities and service.

Salary is competitive and based on teaching and research experience. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D., or have an anticipated Ph.D. completion date before August 30, 2021, in Anthropology.

We are seeking anthropologists who can teach undergraduate and graduate courses that focus on issues surrounding inequality, class, gender, race, and colonialism while incorporating scholarly engagement in their teaching.
