Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Department: Grounds and Landscaping Services
Reports to: Manager, Grounds and Landscaping Services
Status: Full time, benefit eligible - on campus year round
Position Summary: The Landscaper is an advanced position responsible for performing landscaping and grounds services on the Lisle campus.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. GROUNDS AND LANDSCAPING SERVICES:
•Maintain campus exterior turf, hardscape, landscape, mulch beds, gardens, retention ponds, signage, fencing, roadways, parking lots, sidewalks and others as directed.
•Provide all lawn mowing and general care for the campus grounds.
•Trimming and care of trees, shrubs, and other plant life on campus.
•Seasonally install annual flowers.
•Support mulch installation as directed.
•Ensure proper uses and coverage of the campus irrigation system.
•Provide edging of mulch beds and sidewalks, and other areas as directed.
•Support weed, leaf, and grass clipping control throughout the campus grounds.
•Support the maintenance of all campus retention ponds, rain gardens, swales, and culverts on campus.
•Provide daily removal of litter throughout the campus grounds. Empty campus exterior trash receptacles.
•Support furniture relocation, package delivery, and event setup as directed.
•Install annual exterior Christmas lights and décor.
•Snow removal on all roads, parking lots, and walkways.
•Provide fleet maintenance for all University owned vehicles and golf carts.
•Maintenance on small engines, landscaping, and snow removal equipment.
•Support furniture relocation, package deliver, and event setup as directed.
•Immediately report problems to manager, verbally or in writing.
•Maintain the value, operating efficiency, and physical appearance of the campus.
•Assist in directing student labor around the campus.
•Maintain storage rooms, equipment rooms and other areas in a clean and orderly condition.
•Support all University events, including premium occurrences such as Graduation, Homecoming, and high profile student enrollment events. These events may create blackout periods and extended business hours.
•Present a professional personal appearance, wearing proper uniforms and personal protective equipment, and other safety gear that reflects the University image and brand.
•Perform other related duties as assigned

2. COMMUNICATION:
•Always provide exceptional, and consistent levels of customer service to all faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors.
•Excellent interpersonal communication skills between coworkers and superiors.
•Actively participate in team meetings.
•Communicate via phone, and in person in a timely and professional manner.
•Overall communication style must be responsive, and service oriented.
•Work with coworkers and management to provide effective repairs and preventative maintenance throughout the campus.
•Communicate with management regarding material, and tool needs.

Required Qualifications:



Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: some experience in grounds or landscaping services preferred.

Specific Skills:
•Safely utilize heavy equipment, including aerial lifts, scissors lifts, manlifts, and others to support events and cleaning as directed, following proper OSHA procedures.
•Able to lift, push, pull and carry a minimum weight of approximately 50lbs.
•Able to stand for long periods of time.
•Able to kneel, bend and crawl.
•Able to squat and crouch.
•Able to work in confined spaces.
•Able to tolerate exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals.
•Capable of climbing ladders up to thirty (30) feet.
•Knowledge of lawn, tree, and plant care.
•Mechanic experience a plus.
•Experience using snow removal equipment including full size pickups and skid-steers a plus.
•Must possess excellent customer skills.

•Valid Drivers License.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; climb or balance; to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks; and be able to frequently lift 50 pounds of weight throughout the assigned workday. Position may require working in various or extreme weather conditions.
Per Gov. Pritzker’s Executive Order proof of vaccination or weekly COVID-19 testing is required.

Working Conditions: Outdoors in varying levels of temperatures and weather. Some indoor work.
