The University of Florida's Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience and Sea Turtle Hospital is hiring an Adjunct Research Scientist to seek funding opportunities for marine conservation and endangered species rehabilitation. Primary responsibilities include seeking and pursuing grant opportunities that are relevant to various marine organisms, with a particular focus on endangered sea turtles, from state, national and international agencies, which will contribute to the conservation objectives of the facility and support its research programs. The incumbent is expected to capture existing activities at the Whitney Laboratory and appropriately articulate this work and objectives for the funding proposals. We seek an Adjunct Research Scientist that can leverage current activities of the Sea Turtle Hospital and habitat restoration and restocking initiatives to seek and apply to funding opportunities that support the mission of Whitney Laboratory.

In addition to the above, the adjunct research scientist will also contribute to strategic planning of the conservation-orientated activities of the Whitney Lab. They will seek funding mechanisms, prepare proposals and work with the grant administrator to correctly submit this work. The incumbent will be the lead proprietor in submitting these applications and must have the capacity to work independently and collaboratively to complete submissions. All funding opportunities will be submitted through Whitney Lab's internal grant manager and relevant UF Offices to the appropriate agency. This research scientist position may provide opportunities to coordinate with marine bioscience research programs to identify potential funding sources and undergo grant approval processes. Contributions to scientific publications and to outreach publications aimed at a broader general readership may also be required in this post.

The incumbent must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree, have experience with both in-situ and ex-situ animal conservation, and is required to have 10+ years of published research experience in endangered animal behavioral ecology and conservation fields. Excellent written English is required, and the applicant should have substantial experience in writing, editing and proofreading scientific grant applications, manuscripts, theses and publications for both specialized audiences and general readership. Familiarity with the research, conservation and outreach activities carried out at Whitney Lab will be highly advantageous for this position, as will experience of working on local and international projects. The successful applicant will have excellent organizational skills, the ability to work on a range of projects and will coordinate with multiple individuals to achieve the required goals of this position.

• Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. and B.Sc. in a natural science. Certification in proofreading. Experience in grant applications, scientific publication, and public outreach publication, with a minimum of 10 published peer-reviewed articles.
• Preferred Qualifications: Project management experience. Certification in statistics. Familiarity with the research at the Whitney Lab and Sea Turtle Hospital.
