Position Function

Complete university financial reporting. Establish and maintain security for university Banner Finance users; maintain and troubleshoot functional systems controls for Banner Finance; complete systems testing in preparation for upgrades; remain current on proposed system upgrades; perform Fixed Asset system data entry and reporting; create training material and provide training to various university departments regarding proper recording of financial transactions and use of Banner Finance; maintain finance approval queues and rule codes; perform cash flow duties as needed; design and maintain the Office of University Controller’s webpage.

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field from an accredited college or university.

Minimum Experience

At least two years of financial accounting, fund accounting or audit experience.

Minimum Other

Practical experience with Excel.

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.

Preferred Experience

Knowledge of Banner systems and report writing. Experience in higher education.

Preferred Other

Certified Public Accountant

Pre-Employment Screening

Duties & Responsibilities



Job Duty

Provide support in the preparation of the university annual financial report; analyze accounting activity, generate reports from the Banner system, prepare supporting schedules and notes, and assist in financial report reviews; analyze accounting information flow between systems.



Job Duty

Serve as finance data steward, which includes setting up and maintaining security access; testing changes to the system, and working with IT to resolve any errors; staying current and serving as a primary source of information on Banner Finance to end users; maintain system settings, chart element tables, approval queues, and rule codes; run diagnostics and troubleshoot system and non-system errors experienced by Finance users.



Job Duty

Oversee the training of university personnel in the proper preparation and recording of accounting transactions to ensure accurate financial and tax reporting, and use of the Banner systems; assist university personnel in the review of financial data in Banner systems; oversee and assist in preparation and development of training materials and website FAQs.



Job Duty

Review requests for new and updated foapal (chart) elements and Accounts Receivable detail codes; enter fund, organization, account, program and activity codes into the Banner finance system; maintain awareness of impact to chart of accounts and financial reporting; maintain master chart of accounts spreadsheet.



Job Duty

Prepare annual financial and federal reports for WIPB -TV and WBST -FM; ensure financial data is presented in accordance with the most current generally accepted accounting principles and meets Governmental Accounting Standards Board ( GASB ) presentation requirements; work with station personnel and auditors; review reporting completed by other Accountant.



Job Duty

Complete various annual financial surveys required by the university; review survey request detail; interpret year-end financial information and create supporting documents; create and update survey procedures; review surveys completed by other Accountant.



Job Duty

Perform daily duties for fixed assets including transaction reviews and entries into the fixed asset system to add, delete, or adjust a fixed asset. Work closely with Purchasing Services to ensure appropriate fixed asset tagging practices. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the Banner fixed asset system.



Job Duty

Perform daily cash duties as needed to ensure internal controls are maintained within the university’s cash and investment procedure.

Complete accounting month-end close process.



Job Duty

Organize and perform updates to the policies and procedures in the Controller’s Office.



Job Duty

Cross-train on certain duties performed by the Accountant and Financial Analysts and Fixed Asset Accountant to maintain efficient office operations.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
