Position Summary

The University at Buffalo invites applications for a full-time, clinical assistant professor (10-month) position in Italian language instruction (3-3) and program administration. In addition, the incumbent will teach one 1-credit Italian transfer seminar and/or 1-credit intermediate recitation per academic year. Program administrative support responsibilities (1-1) will include:

• Coordination of the Italian Language program (including student advisement and retention, PLACE exams for language placement, evaluating credit transfer from other institutions, instructional oversight and coordination of Italian adjunct instructors at all levels for exams and graded oral interviews, textbooks, teaching materials, remote learning and computer-assisted instruction initiatives)
• Planning and implementation of strategic initiatives in experiential learning, including study abroad programs in Italy
• Service on College of Arts and Sciences Language Study Committee and Departmental Undergraduate Studies Committee
• Additional Language Coordination duties for RLL’s French section, especially observation of graduate Teaching Assistant (TA) instructors

The position will begin in the 2021-2022 academic year. There is no research obligation. The position offers a competitive clinical faculty salary and state employee benefits.

This is a two-year, non tenure-track position with the possibility of renewal based on performance, available funding, and College need.

Minimum Qualifications

• PhD conferred by the start date of appointment
• 3 years demonstrated experience and excellence in teaching Italian language at multiple levels
• Demonstrated experience in Italian language program coordination
• Good knowledge of French for French program TA observation

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in programming Italian experiential learning and study abroad activities and ability to teach ITA content courses as needed is desirable.
