Minimum Qualifications
  • A Masters Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Care Administration, Counseling Psychology, Health Policy, Social Work or related field.
  • Eight (8) or more years of relevant experience with evidence of a collaborative community health focus.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through the development of specific services, teaching and/or research, as well as community engagement.
  • Strong written communication skills as demonstrated in the application materials.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience including staff supervision.
License/Certification Required Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Director of Wellness and Prevention will use research and evidence-based public health strategies to define, direct, coordinate and assess/evaluate specific wellness and prevention priorities and initiatives (including unified messaging) to reduce harm and increase the health and safety of our students. This position will provide oversight for the continuing development, implementation and assessment of programs and services related to wellness across the Division of Student Affairs.

Duties Include:
  • Provide vision and leadership in creating a comprehensive public health model for the wellness and prevention services provided by Appalachian State;
  • Lead efforts regarding the assessment of services and initiatives developed and implemented by the department:
  • Serve as a campus and divisional consultant for community based health promotion strategies;
  • Manage the day to day operation of Wellness and Prevention Services;
  • Represent the Division as a member of campus wide committees and workgroups regarding matters of student health and wellness;
  • Advise the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs on health and wellness matters and concerns, particularly community health improvement strategies;
  • Work collaboratively with the Assistant Vice Chancellor to ensure the effective and efficient fiscal operations and business practices of the health and wellness functional units;
  • Engage in continuous professional development to ensure compliance with recognized best practices;
  • Assisting the Assistant Vice Chancellor in other areas as requested.
Suggested Salary Range $85,000 - $95,000 Physical Demands of Position
