Department Summary
Facilities Services is a unit within Campus Planning and Facilities Management in the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Our employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential financial tools and support to the university's many departments, providing key resources to employees, and keeping campus safe, clean, accessible and beautiful.

Campus Planning and Facilities Management (CPFM) is a vibrant department, which comprises five units, and approximately 270 employees: Facilities Services, Utilities & Energy, Campus Planning, Office of Sustainability, and Design & Construction. The units of CPFM strive to provide excellent customer service to the University of Oregon campus and operate with the highest professional standards, communicating and collaborating with customers to support the stewardship of the campus.

Facilities Services (FS) is responsible for the management of human, financial and material resources, the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures related to the operation, maintenance, repair and minor renovation of university buildings, grounds and infrastructure systems. These services provide the University of Oregon community with a safe, efficient, reliable, functional and aesthetically pleasing learning environment in support of the University's mission and vision.

The Exterior Landscape crew provides a quality environment for students, staff, and community through the exterior maintenance, landscaping, tree care, seasonal/inclement weather response, pest removal and litter removal.

Position Summary
The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor serves as the direct supervisor of the Landscape Maintenance staff. Landscaping refers to all vegetation, shrubs, turf, trees, soils, mulch beds, and things that grow outdoors. This crew consists of 11 Grounds Keepers, 3 Maintenance Laborer Coordinator, 2-3 student workers, and up to 3 temporary workers. The supervisor is not directly responsible for a budget, but works in conjunction with the Associate Director of Environmental Services in managing the overall Landscape budget. Responsibilities include purchasing and inventory of maintenance supplies, monitoring equipment maintenance, and coordinating work by others. This also includes working with FASS-HR for hiring, administering discipline when necessary, and termination for the Landscape Maintenance staff.

The Landscape Maintenance Supervisor reports to the Associate Director of Environmental Services. This position is expected to independently make decisions on supervising employees, interpreting and implementing policy and programs, and unit customer service. Assistance is normally provided in matters of establishing policy or involving major commitments of resources. This position will be expected to comment on new construction that affects the U of O's exterior environment. Additionally, this position is expected to coordinate with the other departments within CPFM (Design & Construction and Planning) and other groups within Facilities Services that have a stake in the U of O's outdoor environment to ensure a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing campus environment.

This position generally works Monday through Friday - 6:00 am to 2:30 pm.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL
This unit may provide essential services during times of emergencies and inclement weather. This position may be required to fulfill essential services and functions during these times.

Minimum Requirements

• Five years of progressive, professional landscape maintenance experience.
  
• Three years of experience supervising, or working as lead worker, for a crew of at least 5 people.
  
  Professional Competencies
  
• Thorough knowledge of plant identification and care, soil chemistry, the appropriate use of pesticides and herbicides, landscape equipment (mowers, string trimmers, tractors, etc.), grass & turf maintenance, landscape pest management, and landscape irrigation.

• Material management and purchasing at a public entity.
  
• An understanding of flower and ornamental bed arrangement.

  Preferred Qualifications
  
• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture, Botany or related field from an accredited institution.
  
• Experience or education concerning the maintenance of trees.
  
• Two years' experience leading an organization of over 10 people.
  
• Experience with landscape maintenance for lots and parcels larger than 1 acre.
  
• State of Oregon Pesticide Applicator License
  
• Experience supervising union-represented staff.
  
• Experience using standard office computer applications (e.g. Word, Excel).
