Academic Advisor I - CHPS

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
The College of Health and Public Service (CHPS) is seeking an academic advisor whose focus is on exceptional student care, with demonstrated results in retention and completion. The qualified individual participates in the delivery of academic advising services and programs that promote successful degree completion for all students. Monitors analytics that informs student success and provides strategic outreach to enable degree completion.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree plus one year of experience related to Summary of Duties.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of student development.
  • Knowledge of higher education student advisement retention and completion principles, techniques, programs, and products.
  • Knowledge of current best practices in student development theory.
  • Knowledge of undergraduate education and undergraduate planning and implementation.
  • Skills in advising/counseling.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Effective analytical skills to collect, compile, analyze, and evaluate information.
  • Ability to assist students to develop effective academic plans and career/life goals in order to promote student retention and academic success.
  • Ability to work with others to accomplish organizational objectives.
  • Ability to utilize technology in the academic advising process.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and think quickly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to be service-oriented, diplomatic, and present ideas in a user-friendly language.


Preferred Qualifications:
Advising experience within a higher education setting.


Physical Requirements:
Consistently sitting as with an office environment. Use of fine-hand manipulation associated with the use of a computer. Consistent need to speak, hear, and see.

Pay Range: $35,568 - $42,914
