Extension Faculty - Area Extension Educator 4-H Youth Development


Location: Off Campus Location - Central District

Position Summary:
This position has two primary job functions. First is to provide leadership to 10 South Central Idaho Counties. This includes setting program priorities, conflict resolution and implementing policies and procedures. The second primary function is to lead, on a statewide basis, 4-H Citizenship and Teen programing. Included in that program leadership component is the UI campus-based program, State 4-H Teen Association Convention, State capitol headquartered 4-H Know Your Government program with state legislators and the 4-H Ambassador program that reaches every county in the state.


Minimum Qualifications:
o Master’s degree in child development, adult development, education, or area closely related to the position.

o Demonstrated knowledge and application in subject matter fields of 4-H Science, Healthy Living, Citizenship or Positive Youth Development.

o Four or more years experience working in positive youth development systems.

o Good presentation skills, organizational skills, and effective problem-solving skills.

o Effective team communication skills; in-person, via technologies, and in groups.

o Demonstrated ability to: coordinate, plan and implement events, workshops, trainings, and programs; organize and prepare information and materials, develop and publish scholarly product; communicate with the public, both orally, in writing, and by telephone; work a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings; work with and around school age children; use good judgment and work independently.


Preferred Qualifications:
o Four or more years working with 4-H, conducting 4-H programs, training 4-H volunteers, and providing leadership in 4-H.
o Experience in grant and budget management.
o Conflict resolution skills.
o Networking experience with volunteer organizations and industry stakeholders.
o Willingness to participate in team curriculum development, problem solving, and event management.
o Experience: developing, recommending, and evaluating program procedures and recommending changes; developing technical written materials such as policies, technical manuals or rules/regulations; ability to coordinate and facilitate group meetings; providing technical program assistance to staff and volunteers; gathering, assembling, correlating, and analyzing facts; devising solutions to problems; writing concise reports, and developing and evaluating policies and procedures.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
o Work a flexible schedule including some weekends and evenings.
o Willingness to travel statewide as needed.
o Must possess valid driver’s license.
o Physical ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move up to 50 lbs.
