Description

Pratt Institute is seeking an organized and community-oriented Program Coordinator for the Digital Preservation Outreach and Education Network (DPOE-N). DPOE-N is a network of training resources available to cultural heritage professionals nationwide to enhance their digital preservation knowledge and skills with a significant outreach and recruitment component. DPOE was created by the Library of Congress in 2010 to provide digital preservation training across the U.S. The program transitioned to Pratt Institute and New York University's Moving Image Archiving and Preservation program in 2018 to further develop and support it into the future.

Under the supervision of the Dean of the School of Information, the successful candidate will run the day-to-day operations of the DPOE-N program, including managing graduate assistants, participant recruitment, logistics of microfund requesting and distribution, and overseeing workshop curriculum and delivery. If you have experience working with digital preservation, can demonstrate the ability to successfully facilitate training workshops, and can process and manage microfunding efforts with accuracy, then we want to hear from you!

Key Essential Duties include the following:

  • Manage the recruitment of participants for microfunding support, often consulting with them on appropriate professional development opportunities for their needs/contexts
  • Help DPOE-N applicants prepare applications for microfunding support
  • Keep abreast of available digital preservation professional development opportunities which could be funded with DPOE-N Support, and collaborating with 3rd party providers of digital preservation education (e.g., the Society of American Archivists, Northeast Document Conservation Center) to further DPOE-N's mission
  • Manage a small team of graduate assistants (from Pratt and NYU MIAP) to accomplish program objectives
  • Coordinate curriculum development and deployment of free DPOE-N hosted workshops
  • Participate in DPOE-N board of advisor meetings by providing updates on the project and preparing applications for board approval
  • Manage all program communications and promote DPOE-N Support opportunities via conferences, the DPOE-N website, social media, etc.
  • Work with consultant to coordinate evaluation of all DPOE-N activities
Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in Library and Information Science or related field.

Experience: 2-years of work experience; experience working with digital preservation tools/technologies/practices.

Skills

  • Knowledge of digital preservation and passion for helping novices learn about it
  • Excellent verbal and written communication including the ability to collaborate with internal staff, partners at outside institutions, and program participants
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team
  • Superior computer skills. Experience with web-based project management and communication tools, especially Airtable, Google Workspace, Wordpress, Slack, Zoom, a plus
  • Ability to provide high-quality service to DPOE-N users/participants
  • Project management capabilities and ability to manage graduate students
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus, but not required

Compensation: This is a grand-funded position funded through June 30, 2022, and may be extended based on ability to secure additional funds. The compensation for this position is $66,101 per year and includes all Pratt Institute administrative employee benefits.

Flexibility: Remote, in-person or hybrid work options will be considered.
