Building Environmental Services Technician - Housekeeping

Primary Purpose of Position:
The primary purpose of this position is clean and perform routine
housekeeping in the University Buildings. Duties include sweeping,
mopping, and vacuuming floor surfaces; waxing, stripping, and
buffing wood and tile floors; cleaning bathrooms, replenishing
paper supplies and soaps as needed; emptying trash receptacles;
moving furniture; high/low dusting; cleaning equipment; operating
heavy equipment; and snow and ice removal during inclement weather.
Position will work special events functions, i.e. commencements,
Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow
instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an
equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special certification may be required for some of these
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess a working knowledge of
cleaning practices; knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
and their purpose in addition to how they are used in housekeeping;
ability to perform heavy to medium physical work; knowledge of
buffers, carpet extractors, floor scrubbers and wet vac.; ability
to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to communicate effectively in oral
and written form; ability to multi-task in addition to bending and
stooping frequently; ability to follow written instruction; great
