Description

POSITION OVERVIEW
This position focuses on leveraging Open Educational Resources (OERs) to reduce and/or alleviate the financial burden on students to purchase instructional material for classes. These resources will draw from already created materials available from a wide variety of sources as well as material created directly for College of Marin (COM) and any grant projects now and into the future. Working closely with faculty, staff, and students from across the campus, the OER Program Coordinator selects materials to support curricula, paying attention to the format and accessibility needs of the classes. This position is the key support staff for Open Education Resources efforts across the campus community including providing any additional OER-related support needed to instructional design, online learning, and distance education areas.


Essential Functions

  • Provide coordination for COM's Open Educational Resources (OER) initiatives
  • Coordinate and support grant managers with grant reporting and tracking of funds
  • Participate in and create professional development activities related to open pedagogy, anti-racism, and accessibility
  • Guide faculty in the finding, adoption, creation, and assessment of OER resources
  • Provide guidance for copyright and creative commons questions related to OER materials and escalate any necessary inquiries to management where appropriate
  • Select materials to support and amplify the voices of underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations including the learning communities at COM
  • Support a variety of equitable instructional tools to support students with different learning approaches and needs
  • Foster an environment where diversity and equity are advanced
  • Participate in College-wide efforts to dismantle barriers that can impact underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations
  • Advocate for OER adoption and funding with key stakeholders
  • Further develop and maintain professional competence through participation in professional organizations, workshops, conferences, and professional development courses
  • Participate in local data collection for OER and track the outcomes from OER adoption
  • Maintain OER website and other related professional development materials
  • Incorporate library materials or other free instructional materials that are not OER into the ZTC pathway when possible.
  • Other Functions:
    • Provide regular reports to management and federal/State agencies as requested; participate on program reviews; assure program compliance with federal or State program guidelines.
    • Provide work direction and guidance to others assigned to the program; assign work to other classified personnel, students, volunteers and others.
    • Conduct regular meetings to communicate, review and revise program guidelines
    • Assure program expenditures are within allocated budgets; monitor budgets; propose budget changes and participate in project budget applications as necessary.
    • Serve as liaison between program personnel, participants, clients, administrators, faculty and students; provide information, program requirements and other pertinent information
    • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

    REQUIREMENTS
    1. Bachelor's Degree with study in job related area and job related experience; or
    2. Any combination of education and training equivalent to (2) two years of college-level coursework from an accredited institution in a related field and (2) two years of responsible experience working in higher education; and
    3. Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and learning styles of community college students

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
    Prior to employment, the selected candidate will be required to complete the following:

California Education Code, Section 87408.6 requires persons employed by a community college in an academic or classified position to submit to a TB risk assessment developed by CDPH and CTCA and, if risk factors are present, an examination to determine that he or she is free of infectious TB; initially upon hire and every four years thereafter.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS: All Marin Community College District (MCCD) employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).     SALARY INFORMATION
    FLSA Status: Non-exempt
    Salary Range: CSEA 127
    Starting Salary Range: $38.62 to $42.60 per hour (Step 1 to 3). Normal entering step is Step 1.

    CLASSIFICATION CATEGORY
    Employees in this classification are represented by the California School Employees' Association (CSEA). CSEA employees are also members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), to which the member contributes up-to 7% of their reportable compensation on a monthly basis.
