San Joaquin Delta Community College District is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty member as a Faculty Researcher. This role is responsible for maximizing the impact of data sets, research, and evaluation on behalf of the college, including, where necessary increasing the data analytics proficiency of college administration, faculty and staff. The ideal candidate will share in the college's commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Instruction and Planning or designee, the faculty member will add to the college capacity in the research, development, analysis, communication, visualization, reporting, and effective use of student performance and equity data to inform improvement efforts in instructional programs, related support services, grant projects, and overall institutional effectiveness. The successful candidate will provide evidence of knowledge and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, and academic diversity within community college populations and how these factors relate to the need for equity-minded and culturally-responsive practices in the community college setting.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  1. Designs, develops, and maintains data visualizations for disaggregated TrAC, programs, and course-level data in support of institutional effectiveness, including the District strategic goals and student momentum points.
  2. Meets with faculty each semester and provides them with the disaggregated student data for each course taught the previous semester to identify and or compare statistical significance as it relates to addressing equity gaps, student success and retention.
  3. Conducts research as assigned and disseminates the results through research reports, presentations, executive summaries, and other methods.
  4. Reviews Human Subjects Research requests and makes recommendations to the Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Instruction or designee.
  5. Provides expert knowledge on current research in the field of Higher Education, specifically for culturally responsive teaching and learning, equitable teaching practices, and at-scale student success strategies. Disseminates current research through reports, presentations, executive summaries etc.
  6. Provides data for grants.
  7. Works collaboratively with participatory governance committees and District programs to create and provide data-informed approaches to faculty professional development/flex, specifically for culturally responsive teaching and learning, equitable teaching practices, and at-scale student success strategies.
  8. Provides technical assistance and leadership for faculty engaged in program review, institutional projects, or classroom research, including strategic goal development, research design, survey administration, test validation, and evaluation and data analysis.
  9. Works collaboratively with and provides expert knowledge, technical and analytical support, and data coaching for TrAC success teams, TrAC Deans and program faculty, specifically focused on equity and success, including completion and post-graduation outcomes; includes facilitation of discussions among success teams and discipline groups regarding data related to student performance and promising practices for improving equitable outcomes for disproportionately impacted student populations.
  10. Meets with TrAC Deans and Discipline groups, counselors, TrAC teams on a monthly basis to discuss student equity gaps and disproportionately impacted populations and groups and to collaborate on plans to address how the needs with be meet.
  11. Prioritizes and responds accurately and timely to faculty and TrACs requests for data and information regarding academic programs, courses, and related support services.
  12. Serves as a member of the General Education Committee to provide ongoing and updated data analysis related to student equity gaps.
  13. Participates in the TrAC departmental process of curriculum review, curriculum modification, and the assessment of student learning outcomes based on the statistical analysis of student equity data.
  14. Maintains confidentiality of any private personal information encountered and any release of student related records must be in accordance with FERPA regulations and the policies and procedures of the District; additionally, treats all information encountered in the performance of duties as confidential unless and until advised otherwise by assigned supervisor.
  15. Participates in departmental, divisional, advisory, campus-wide and community committees as part of the shared governance process and service area needs of the District as it relates to student equity data.
  16. Perform other necessary duties, as assigned and/or as outlined in Board Policy.





MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Have a master's degree from an accredited institution in, statistics, education research administration or methodology, applied social research, or related field.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience and/or training in sensitivity and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, ethnic backgrounds and differences of community college students and staff.
  • Data-modeling, database design, or similar experience that demonstrates knowledge of data systems.
  • Knowledge of human-centered design framework and methodology within higher education and business settings.
  • Experience querying and analyzing data sets in relational databases
  • Knowledge of current research and best practices in student success and equity
  • Effectively use a variety of computer software applications for database management, communications, spreadsheets, graphics, and word processing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and foster cohesion
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching strategies and techniques to different student's ability, learning styles, culture and ethnic groups.
  • Ability to use innovative and creative teaching techniques (lecture and labs) and equipment, including the use multimedia hardware, current applications, and online instructional strategies. A working knowledge of Canvas or other Learning Management Systems is particularly desirable.
