The Johns Hopkins School (JHU) of Nursing is seeking a Sr. Research Program Coordinator for theEnhancing Nursing Capacity to Understand and Address the Needs of Native American Youth on the Fort Belknap Reservation,a Fort Belknap-JHU WT Grant Institutional Challenge Project.The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will work on mental health research projects including topics related to suicide and substance use, trauma, cultural intervention and others as they arise. The main focus is on the coordination of theEnhancing Nursing Capacity Project, a community based participatory research project that includes a community assessment on youth suicide.

The Sr. Research Program Coordinator will also work closely with nursing students and fellows in training and capacity building efforts. With support from an engaged research team based in Baltimore and on the Fort Belknap Reservation, the Sr. Research Program Coordinator will ensure study ethical requirements, protocols, and policies are followed throughout project implementation.

The Sr. Research Program Coordinatorworks for the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing as part of theEnhancing Nursing Capacity Projectteam. This position will be based in Fort Belknap, MT andwill report to the PI Dr. Teresa Brockie. This position will work together with the Baltimore-based research team and reservation-based research team to coordinate theEnhancing Nursing Capacity Projectandassist with other reservation-based mental health research programs as needed. This position offers tremendous growth potential.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with program planning and publication writing:
  • Assisting with preparation and writing of federally- and foundation-funded grants.
  • Managing writing and submission of routine grant and IRB reports.
  • Assisting with preparation of presentations for conferences and writing of manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals.
  • Serving as a Sr. Research Program Coordinator for reservation-based study staff who are implementing community-based participatory research projects for Native American youth, scholars, nurses, families, and adults:
  • Assisting with drafting research protocols (research plans, consent/recruitment materials and assessments).
  • Creating and maintaining documents related to study coordination (policies and procedures manuals, study tracking logs, and study timelines).
  • Providing training for field-based study staff on evaluation instruments, human subjects protection, confidentiality, informed consent, recruitment procedures, and program protocol for reservation-based study staff.
  • Assisting with reporting requirements to various funding agencies and IRBs.
  • Tracking timelines and budget information.
  • Conducting weekly conference calls and daily individual phone calls with off-site study team members to monitor study progress.
  • Provide updates on current progress of the study as requested
  • Traveling to Baltimore, Maryland as needed for training and in-person meetings (when allowed with COVID-19 restrictions).
  • Representing associated projects at national conferences.
  • Assist PI with preparation for and coordination of Tribal Advisory Board meetings.
  • Work closely with the Research Team on the development and adaptation of interventions and curricula:
  • Work with Tribal partners to adapt study materials for cultural relevance.
  • Develop associated materials including policies and procedures manuals, train-the-trainers manuals, reference manuals and bibliography, activity binders, trainee binders, participant workbooks, and other training materials (i.e. handouts, presentations).
  • Conduct regular quality assurance on data collection activities.
  • Train staff, students, and fellows on research and program procedures
  • Assisting with data management and program evaluation:
  • Helping set up and monitor data management system.
  • Cleaning and coding of quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Conducting preliminary statistical and qualitative data analysis.
  • Preparing preliminary program evaluation reports, including creation of tables, charts, and graphs to summarize data.
  • Tracking and reporting adverse events.
  • Coordinating relevant data safety monitoring boards.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory)

  • Bachelor’s degree in related discipline
  • 3 years related experience
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

​​​​​​​JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Native American populations
  • Experience working in rural and remote reservation settings
  • A master’s degree in public health, nursing or related discipline
  • At least 1-2 years research coordination or research experience in nursing, public or mental health
  • Working knowledge of REDCap and STATA

Other:

    Current driver’s license issued by the state of residence and good driving record required.
  • This position will maintain background clearance as required by the employer and any collaborating agencies.
  • Ability to travel as needed to remote reservation sites in Montana and to Baltimore, Maryland, including overnight trips for extended days. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work will be required.
