The Benefits Administrator position oversees the administration of employee benefits. This position provides support and customer service to the entire college workforce in this capacity.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage and coordinate the administration of all employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, short-term disability, Flexible Spending Account and Health Savings Accounts, and Employee Assistance Programs
  • Serve as the primary contact for all of the employee benefit vendors and ensure benefits are administered according to the agreements
  • Review weekly reports for accuracy and consistency in payment of claims
  • Manage the college’s annual open enrollment process by planning and developing the logistics, creating employee materials, coordinating employee sessions and working with benefit vendors to ensure benefit information is accurate and timely
  • Serve as the primary contact for employees regarding problems or issues with their benefits and/or claim payments
  • Assist in the management of the College’s wellness program (LiveWell)
  • Process all enrollment materials for new hires, coordinate with the Payroll Department, and the appropriate benefit vendor
  • Process disability claims (long and short term and/or disability retirement requests) and life insurance claim forms
  • Coordinate the compliance initiatives in support of the college’s fiduciary role relative to the 403b, 457, and ARP retirement plans
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with retirement plan and insurance representatives
  • Conduct employee benefit presentations for new hire orientation, departmental meetings and other requests from the college
  • Administer the college’s FMLA/ADA processes by meeting with employees and supervisors to determine FMLA eligibility, regularly inform the Chief Human Resource Officer to make appropriate benefit related decisions
  • Administer the college’s tuition reimbursement/waiver program by making eligibility determinations
  • Coordinate research with insurance broker regarding employee benefit inquires, legislation and provide reference materials
  • Participate in special or periodic projects, programs, and surveys
  • Serve as an ambassador and effective representative of the HR department in various capacities
  • Coordinate the necessary paperwork completion for federal loan forgiveness program
  • Monitor reports and tracking for ACA compliance
  • Coordinate COBRA administration
  • Monitor creditable healthcare insurance to include Medicare
  • Assist in the data compilation for the 1095 reporting process on behalf of the college

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a Human Resources, Business, Management, or related field required
  • Minimum of five years’ work experience in employee benefits administration or related field required
  • Current working knowledge of employee benefits administration and compliance required
  • Prior work experience in a higher educational institution preferred
  • Thorough knowledge and application of the following: FMLA; ADA; Affordable Care Act; self-insured insurance and broad knowledge of employee benefits, i.e., medical, dental, life. LTD/STD, FSA, HSA required
  • Current working knowledge of 401k, 457, 403b, STRS, OPERS or other retirement plan administration preferred; specifically Ohio public college and university fiduciary responsibilities preferred
  • Current work experience and knowledge of HIPAA, COBRA and IRS regulations that pertain to tuition reimbursement required
  • High level skills in Microsoft Office program to include but not limited to: Excel; Outlook; Word; etc. required
  • Prior work experience with an HRIS database required; prior experience with Datatel/Colleague preferred
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations for compensation, leave and compensation required
  • Strong human relations skills, teamwork oriented, and customer-service skills required
  • Professional written/oral communication skills required
  • Ability to show compassion and understanding for employee situations while ensuring compliance with college policy and practice required
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks while providing attention to detail and meeting all prescribed deadlines required
  • Ability to maintain confidential information required
