Vice President for Student Success and Retention

Under the direction of the President, the Vice President for Student Success and Retention leads success and retention initiatives and is responsible for a comprehensive action plan for the University based on current trends and best practices. The Vice President will proactively devise and lead strategies for academic success and retention; develop and implement University retention goals and strategies; track retention activities; assess efficacy; recommend changes to the administration to enhance retention efforts; and perform related work as required.

The Vice President works in collaboration with faculty, staff and administrators throughout the university to provide essential support services to Kean University students and promote individual student success. The Vice President oversees the following areas: the Center for Advising, Persistence and Success and its programs and initiatives; the EOF Program; the PASSPORT Program; the Spanish Speaking Program; the Office of Social Work; Project Adelante; the Ronald E. McNair Grant Program; the Upward Bound Grant Program; Veterans Services; and the Office of Student Retention and Educational Innovation. The Vice President will have a comprehensive working knowledge of University policies, procedures and graduation requirements. This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

This is not a remote position and requires physical presence on campus as determined by the Supervisor. It requires working on campus during the COVID-19 pandemic and interacting directly with students following all procedures and protocols set forth in the University’s Restart Plan and any procedures/protocols created through additional correspondence. The employee must have the ability to wear a face covering for the duration of the workday during the COVID pandemic or as determined by university protocol.

Qualifications: Master's degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of supervisory managerial experience in student success and retention initiatives at the university level or an equivalent combination of education and experience as determined by the University. Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to multitask.
